Former Employee – worked at HARMAN International
Pros – Brands, Products history, Compensation and benefits
Cons – Dictatorial work culture with management having a factory culture mindset. Respect for the employees is absolutely lacking and people are in for a shock when you join for the Brand name but find high misuse of power in the top management with sycophancy and crude treatment of employees. Negative bureaucracy. Technology awareness is bleak at the top and so is the ability to do business in the market. Innovation is impossible at this center.
Advice to Senior Management – Value employees. Empowerment in the centers can be misused to the core. Though a big global org, it is a small start up in the country. Management arrogance will lose the talent necessary for a budding center. Technology team is certainly questionable for not having technical depth.

Current Employee – been working at HARMAN International full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Infotainment is a very interesting business, continuous challenges and satisfaction from finished product. There are always new programs to work on and it's never boring to come to work.
Cons – Heavy workload, long hours, very aggressive deadlines and high throughput expectations. It is very hard to have a good life/work balance because of the shortage of resources and the continuous demands to meet program deadlines.
Advice to Senior Management – Focusing on employee retention is going to bring a lot of long term success

Pros – Great products and technology. Dedicated people. Global operations - lots of moves; many opportunities. Company focused on great customer experience. For audiophiles the place to be!
Cons – Moved production out of US to china and mexico. Ruthless management that cared little about employees. Lot of pressure to meet the numbers. People getting burned out - if you are in company polictis and played well you did good..

Former Employee – worked at HARMAN International full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – A great tradition of high end audio system. Respected by audiophiles worldwide. Employees very dedicated and cohesive, overall.
Cons – Poor marketing efforts. They rely on reputation and word of mouth to extend brands. BOSE and Beats out-market Harman with mailings, print ads, web ads and broadcast commercials.
Senior management determined to outsource all functions to China and India, Many lay offs in the US and Europe. Senior management rewards themselves with large bonuses while their products list numerous defects and the supply chain dynamics deliver damaged packages. Employees nervous about their futures within the company
Advice to Senior Management – Bring jobs back to USA, especially engineering and manufacturing. Spend on marketing and operations so most products don't sit on shelves without recognition or visible box damage. Apply stricter quality controls in manufacturing to avoid releasing defective products.
