I have been working at Henry Schein full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Decent Benefits & Pay,
    Decent Work/Life Balance,
Great place to start and get experience,
Dentrix is the best product in its industry,
Great company that seems to care about people,
Great access to resources & software tools,
    Outstanding stability,
Pretty much everyone I met there was professional and friendly

    Cons

    Very slow promotion movement,
    Very slow compensation raises,
Lots of politics & red tape everywhere,
People are very hard to fire it seems, so it keeps the bad baggage around for a long time

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more aggressive with hiring/firing/compensation in order to leverage the best talent and keep Dentrix on top. The corporate mentality for Dentrix seemed to be to just go through the motions and "milk it until it dies" instead of nurturing it and raising the bar.

I have been working at Henry Schein

    Pros

top tier training, well known name, you aren't going into any dental office that won't know where your from. great products and services to sell. Given a reasonable base to start and plenty of time on that base. Even though large company(15,000 employees), has small company feel, upper management is extremely visible and willing to listen to anyone. they preach Family first and I learned first hand that they mean it

    Cons

In my region there was far too many FSC's, seems as though young FSC's are hired in an effort to scrub all the house accounts that dont get called on, they would like you to succeed but you are going to be given garbage accounts that no one wants (near retired, dead, sometimes empty offices)

    Company without a heart

I have been working at Henry Schein full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    Good dental plan.
    Some people are nice.

    Cons

    1. Even it is 12 inch of snow out there, you have to show up to work. That is right. Even USPS does not deliver mail, you are asked to show up at this place.
    2. Management acts like they are open to suggestion, but don't believe it.
    3. If you have a veteran/professional or have years of experience, do not work here. They don't believe you. Management wants to be "scheined".
    4. Clock in and clock out. Are you kidding?
    5. If you are young, don't work here. Many old people here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Nothing to say to them. I have tried.

I have been working at Henry Schein full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Awesome learning experience. Great opportunity to learn and gain industry connections. Overall a positive experience when you leave the politics out of the picture.

    Cons

Political environment - too many get ahead with limited talent but the ability to manage up. Rely to heavily on the few that truly are passionate and care about the company, yet don't reward them. It's not what you know, it is who you know and how well you adore them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get in the weeds. Operating at a high altitude sometimes deprives you of the reality of what is really going on. Morale is not currently good, It may be time to come off the third floor and visit without an entourage that only provides you with information they want you to hear.

I have been working at Henry Schein as a contractor (more than 5 years)

    Pros

paycheck clears every time. Some of the people are Great to work with.

    Cons

5 years and the last two have been so wrong. Management does not know how to manage but they do know how to stick the knife in your back. Only thing that matters at this corp is how much green you bring in. The managers will make stuff up to get you fired if they don't like you. Oh the men managers don't like women they think they are below them. Don't even think about working for them they will have you in tears in no time..

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a clue on how people should be treated. Get with the time times and stop running your billion dollar Co. on Dos programing duh....

    I worked at Henry Schein

    Pros

You manage your own territory. If you are above $1.5 million in sales they usually leave you alone so you can grow your territory. Dental sales takes 1.5-3 years before you start to really grow. It all has to do with relationships with the dentist and their staff. It's good to have a big company that has a great training. Henry Schein's training and continuing ed program is top notch. Only reason I left was to go back to school to be a dentist or would have been a lifer.

    Cons

Depending on the regional manager or zone manager you get, it could make your job great or more difficult.

I worked at Henry Schein full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The Company is solid. Great industry for the aging population. Top management does not overpay itself.

    Cons

Several of us were overworked and under appreciated. Managers played favorites to the point of counter- productivity. Middle managers had little respect for work-life balance, unless it was their own. Hokey Team Schein stuff. You're only a team for the company's benefit. There is no team for you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice
