Former Employee – worked at Holiday Retirement full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Residents humor and life stories.
Cons – Lead Managers make decision without input for other team members. Managers have to dress professional and be ready to serve food, unclog toilets, clean up blood, vomit or diaper spills, Telemarketing means making early morning and late evening calls. . Free meals are the left over after the residents have finished. Express training then no follow up. Rent hikes create a high turn over with Residents.
Advice to Senior Management – Work one day a year work as a manager.

Current Employee – been working at Holiday Retirement part-time for less than a year
Pros – A few of the residents help you get through the day, with there humor, others are rude and racist.
Cons – The managers (Wife & Husband), consistently tag team the servers staff. The who staff is not even over the age of 21. The servers are treated like crap on a daily basis. The servers are also forced to clock out at, and continue to work without pay.
Advice to Senior Management – Hire Someone who knows what they are doing. When it comes to being a server, its more than just serving food, the managers cant even do our job, let alone there own.

Former Employee – worked at Holiday Retirement full-time for more than a year
Pros – A company with a fantastic Mission Statement , an exclusive concept supposed to encrich the lives of so very deserving seniors .
Cons – All the Focus is on getting new residents to sign a lease , once done nothing else matters. The Seniors well being and life enrichment is ignored.
Advice to Senior Management – It would be prudent to set realisitc goals , that are achieveable as well as sustainable. Someone up there decided that every building run by Holiday Retirement should be at a 100% Occupancy , which may or may not be possible at each individual building. The Management has slowly been led by out and out sales people at the regional and district level , who have no idea about daily operations and the day to day activities involved in running a sucessful building. In the words of The Regional Director the one and the only measure of a sucessfully run building is the number of Net Move-Ins every month...Period.
So all those community management teams that can sustain this are doing fine ....what senior management has to realize that how many of these so called move-ins are true and not just a lease printed out without any signatures or a deposit cheque. If they (senior managent ) would pay attention to this and make it mandatory that a copy of the signed lease and an actual cheque number be required at the time of the lease , all these fudged numbers on the board would be accounted for .
The Regional Sales lead to earn his bonus is actually leasing out apartments which are a downsize from the actual apartment rented and then forcing managers to switch to the actual apartment by doing a in house transfer when the new resident moves in. What this means is that if a resident is moving in into a 1Bed Room Apartment , the lease is made out for a Studio apartment which does not require any discounts in-fact this is projected as an apartment rented out at a higher cost that the actual monthly rent , therefore letting the RSL earn a much larger bonus , when the resident acually moves in the Managers are asked by the RD and the RSL to do a transfer into the actual apartment that was rented.
In case this is not obvious to senoir management then some one up there is willingly lettting this happen to achieve his/her committment to a 100% occupancy and save their job , or is incompetent enough not to realize what is going on.

Current Employee – been working at Holiday Retirement full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – The best part of my job, and the only reason I'm still there is for the residents.
Cons – I am a pretty mellow and laid back person in general. However, when it comes to working, I have been prescribed anti-anxiety drugs just to be able to handle stress at work. Managers change every 4 months or so, and each new set has their own way of "fixing" everything. They come in all fired up about how they are gonna change the world when there is no need for it. This constant change makes it a very stressful work environment.
Advice to Senior Management – Sell the company to another outfit that will have pride in their employees and treat their residents with dignity.

Current Employee – been working at Holiday Retirement full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Our residents (customers) have been awesome. Learning their life stories and making their day a little brighter have been the best part of my job.
Cons – Worst place to work in the whole country. You are not rewarded (or even recognized) for doing a good job. As a community manager you have two full time jobs: Operational management and Sales. Sales comes first and you will be terminated for not completing your sales tasks. Needless to say the stress is maximum for a minimum pay job that takes 80 hours a week to complete.
Advice to Senior Management – Remember who your customer is and who is in front of that cutomer every day. The best advice I ever received way back was: "If you aren't servicing a customer you should be servicing someone who is." Also, you get what you pay for. Real professionals do cost a little more.

Former Employee – worked at Holiday Retirement part-time for more than a year
Pros – Being of service to the residents and co-workers. (Non-Managerment
Cons – Go to work everyday to be harrassed, stressed out, micro managed, being fired while managers lie on you. It's Husband and Wife against employee's. Corp has no clue on what's going on and they are not on the employee's side. The employee's need a Union. If your tired of being harrassed stick together and get a Union.
Advice to Senior Management – Be careful on how you treat people cause, you will be taped and you will have a major law suit. Also, remember we will all get old and we will all need some type of care so, watch out on how you treat people cause, you may have treated an employee wrong and that employee's child may be your caretaker later on in life.
