I have been working at Holy Cross Hospital Silver Spring MD full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Great supervisors, You are allowed to make your own schedule as you see fit

    Cons

over burdened employees, to many job responsibilities, some colleague feel like they own the place and no one else is allowed to work there unless the say so. Lack of flexibility after schedule has been posted.

The pay for employees is less than the average for all hospitals in the surrounding area.

I worked at Holy Cross Hospital Silver Spring MD full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Best reason is that as a new graduate you can get experience; for example in the nursing unit which there are many jobs, but the downfall is that you will be overworked.

    Cons

...Even for mid and upper tier jobs holy cross pays less than most markets and surrounding hospitals, that's why most people come for the one year of experience and transfer out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pay your staff better
Look into the averages of other hospitals. Or even hire more people because nurses and other staff are overworked.

I have been working at Holy Cross Hospital Silver Spring MD

    Pros

coworkers treat nice to each other, occasional breakfast events are nice. community hospital level of patients. not too signigicantly sick.

    Cons

always short on staffs, Rns and middle management big turn over, patient ratio in icu setting is always 1:3 nurses exhausted. other unit is about the same, high patient ratio.
    salary is not so high.
although patient is not super acutely sicker but so much customer care issue and if cnas not so helpful, gets really tired from linen job.
Off site parking, parking garage is on only weekend and nights.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

really need to work on better staffing, not only full time because short stays of full time staffs. work on prn, per diem. travel nurses.. please don't cut down cna for sitter, burdens other staffs who could have saved more lives instead of doing linen work.
off site parking, belive it or not, this makes a huge difference for some people like me. super tired even before starting a crazy shift.

I worked at Holy Cross Hospital Silver Spring MD part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Organization cares about its customers and its employees.
To me, that is pretty much everything.
Commitment to safety, community service, good care.
Has been paying above minimum wage for a long time, sets its own minimum liveable wage.

    Cons

Sometimes micromanagement gets in the way of things.
    Recent growth could present challenges.
Sometimes HR comes across as a little tone deaf and heavy handed.

  8.

    Pros

You really feel like you're a part of the hospitals overall goal. You're a part of the team. And the benefits are great.

    Cons

While staff may care about their patients, there is a lot of disconnect between nurses and other staff members. The office culture can seem very toxic.

I have been working at Holy Cross Hospital Silver Spring MD full-time

    Pros

Wonderful, talented, hard working and friendly staff. The pay is good. Smaller community hospital.

    Cons

Poor nurse to patient ratios on most floors, being short staffed is an every day norm now, nurses have no voice, everyone feels overworked and floor morale has gone downhill on more than one unit. Managers don't listen to staff, only to higher-ups. 2 weeks at a time vacation only, vacation frequently denied, scheduling first come first serve, no 401k matching, benefits are not that great, off site parking. Documentation requirements are out of control, patient safety is really becoming a problem, high turnover rate.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please just listen to staff about our concerns, being a manager requires being the middleman between your managers and us. Its a two way communication street, but to us it feels like it goes only one way.
