Poor compensation, leadership not diverse, saw a lot of nepotism in hiring. I would not recommend this place to work.

Clinical Nurse (Former Employee) Silver Spring, MD (US)

ProsThey do have average health care benefits and 401K

ConsDifficult for some people to advance, sort of a 'good ole boys' (except they're women, not men) type of environment with the managers. you see a lot of minorities at the lower levels--foot soldiers (nurses, nursing assistants, housekeeping, maintenance). Like to hire and promote from within, so even if you have the qualifications, it may be difficult for you to get in. Exclusive-type culture. Mgmt seems a little out of touch with how the community feels about the lack of diversity.

Advice to Senior Managementmore diversity needed in middle and upper management, need to balance hiring practices

    Easy, non challenging work environment

Registered Nurse (Current Employee) Silver Spring, MD (US)

    ProsHigh grades for computer software
    Less than average patient loads
    Decent Pay
    Excellent SICUt

ConsMany RNs and front line staff are unable to communicate clearly due to language barriers. Poor customer service on general floors and ICU
High turnover of RNs after they fulfill contract obligations

Advice to Senior ManagementRemove "senior" staff that no longer care about the company's vision.
Hire a work force that is able to speak English. Many licensed professional lack the ability to communicate effectively to the patients you serve.
Reach for Magnet Status! Until you do so, you will continue to have a weak, unproductive work force.
Find out why respiratory therapists are not helping RNs - they don't answer the phone or spend much time on the unit.
