I worked at Hot Topic part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It was amazing working in Hot Topic and greeting all customers and making sure they found what they were looking for.

    Cons

I wish I couldn't worked there for a longer period of time instead of just working a seasonal position.

    Advice to Management

It was a fun environment to work in, and very comfortable.

    Pros

The discounts here were really great, 40% off most things, even if they were on sale. The coworkers are all really nice and super fun to be around

    Cons

They put major stress to talk to the customers, so if you weren't willing to talk a lot this job may not be for you

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what you're doing

    Pros

Really great atmosphere. Fun customers, open dress code, cool merchandise. Very generous discount for family members too. You actually get feedback from your managers and district manager.

    Cons

Seems like we're always behind. There's so much tasking that you're literally breathing heavy and sweating while trying to sell to customers. Payroll keeps getting cut even when the workload increases. You're told not to task during the day, but expected to have all shipment, markdowns, product changes, promotion changes, business recaps, visual housekeeping, phone calls to customers, interviews, recruiting, and emails done by the end of the day.

    Advice to Management

By adding a little bit more payroll in stores you could actually increase sales by associates being able to have time for selling. Imagine how much you could increase the numbers if we had time to really help customers. It's very sad to see how hard we work and not have the sales to show for it. My store manager works harder than anyone I've ever met. I wish she could get more payroll to do other things she needs to do.

    Pros

Great place to work. Great people to work with. Everyone is friendly and willing to answer any questions asked. The discount is amazing too!

    Cons

Not very many hours. If you aren't management don't expect more then 25-30 hours a week and that's if you are a good worker. They hire seasonal and keep you if they have the pay to do so. You only get medical benefits if you are management.

    Advice to Management

I never really had any problems with management.

    Pros

Hot Topic is an excellent place to learn the initial workings of job responsibility etc while still maintaining a pretty realaxed environment. For the most part as a sales associate your job is to look interesting and provide customer service.

    Cons

In recent years the companies image and target demographic has changed a lot. This understandable however it tends to isolate long time customers and employees who really identified with the original Bison of the company.

    Advice to Management

Less Disney nonsense and more music culture. The frozen Merch might be a great seller now but in the long run it's important to remember the things that have services you well since 1989

    Pros

Easy going, unless during the holidays. Flexible Schedules, opportunities for promotions come and go. unless you're and assistant manager you're not looking at more than an average of 15 hours especially not during holidays.

    Cons

Pays like crap, the company sells crap, have fun on friday nights with all the young highschool kids.

    Advice to Management

Think about the crap you're trying to sell i cant tell you the amount of stuff that gets marked out of stock or price cut because it cant sell. and bring the music back music has been diminishing more and more every year. and pay your SA minimum wage but when you're promoting them past keyholder and moving the store they work at to a furthur location you best believe i want more than a dollar raise.
