I worked at IBM full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

This is only for Software Labs.

It is a nice place to work. The people are good, since it was my first job a hell lot of learning.
The work life balance is good. The management and everyone understand that you have a life outside the office, but the work always gets done no matter. They pay well considering all the flexibility and work that we do.

There is also good recognition of the work if you really stand out of the crowd. If you are just another person working as a software guy for the heck of it, don't bother it will be the same for you everywhere.

There is a good amount of energy in people to innovate, write new patents / ideas which are rarely found in that much quantity in other companies.

    Cons

It all depends on who your manager is and how much of an effort you put in for good results. I do not have any cons in particular. I have got everything I needed while I was there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

All the projects somehow have origins in places other than India. Please do some fresh work completely driven and developed in india.

I have been working at IBM full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

You learn a lot. You get to work with tons of cool people. Friendly policies for employees. I've grown 2 bands in 2 years, so they do promote you based on merit.

    Cons

A lot of processes, less compensation than others. The issue is when you move up a band you expect at least some amount of rise in compensation and definitely not 3%.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Compensation is something you should not neglect over and over again.

I have been working at IBM as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

    1) Good Work Flexibility
    2) Good Night Shift and Traveling Allowances
    3) Work From Home Option

    Cons

    1) No Team Collaboration.
    2) It is very hard to find atleast one expert in many Projects.
    3) Managers are from different domains which leads dependency on Technical Resources i.e., the managers are in position to accept whatever the resources says.
    4) Poor Hike System
    5) Most of the Manager's Lacking basic Skills like MS Office, Presentation etc.,
    6) Variable Pay never comes to our salary, again it depends project to project.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Manager should have curiosity to understand Project related issues and knowledge related to that.

I have been working at IBM full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Just cannot think of any, coz everything just sucks

    Cons

You just forget your work-life balance, no one to really listen to the employee, see a lot of meetings with absolutely no solution to any issue, meetings are always an explanation & never a thought on what the employee is trying to make you understand, lots more if we start counting.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Open your eyes atleast now & see if you have the capability to be fair to the people who really put their effort & not regionalize the accounts. You know the actual productivity does not really come from the 80% of the disciples you keep in the managerial roles, it only comes from the 20% who really give what it takes to be competitive.
