    Pros

ICAP gives you a lot of exposure in terms of macro economics. If you just don't limit yourself to the job you are supposed to be doing and get into casual relations with your clients, there is tons to be learnt from the industry leaders.

    Cons

limited industry scope. dying nowadays. you face tough competetion from electronic broking. As in every other broking job, it sees unfair at times. Your success is largely dependent on the number, size and type of clients you've got. You get focused to only one niche industry with limited self growth, ignoring all the other talents you possess.

    Advice to Management

Department heads should not be appointed according to the revenues they bring in, but their leadership abilities and popularity.

    Pros

After office hour client building, fast-paced environment, amazing people. Really a good sense of community within the desks they grow to be like your family.

    Cons

unfulfilling at times, when market is slow your day drags. The day to day job is not as exciting as it seems.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to be a bit more transparent about where they believe the company is moving and how to shape the company in a way that can battle market shocks.

  3. A good company but a dying industry. The people are generally nice, I was there on a summer scheme and grad scheme.

    Pros

The people, the environment, the job. Electric is the way forward, voice is slowly diminishing. The approuch to recruiting was tough and they seem to favor what would have been 'bankers' who want to be 'bankers' but are using this as a back up, instead of those who actually want to be a broker.

    Cons

The industry is going to die. The company has little morals, if the costs > benefits for your desk then your out of a job. The lease to their london building is up in a year and with the swap going towards electronic, I predict a huge loss of jobs as they focus on electronic and drop all the useless voice desks/

    Advice to Management

Its a people's industry. Why not hire people suitable for the job, instead of boring LSE graduates that have spent far to much of their life in the library.

    Pros

Good training budget in some departments

    Cons

You'll find better salaries elsewhere. Can be some weekend work that you won't get paid for or holiday to compensate.
Some poor trading figures had them reduce a large amount of broking departments

    Advice to Management

    Get company moral improved

    Pros

Training was good, similar level to investment banks but the graduate scheme is with no prospects for a future career.

    Cons

No future career prospects. A sales career in an investment bank is a better alternative with better career growth, salary and exposure opportunities.

    Pros

    - Big name company
    - Fellow colleagues can be great to work with
    - Charity day is fun

    Cons

    - Will sack you without any prior warnings or formal written process even though they have no basis (cannot take them to Employment Tribunal unless you have been there for over 2 years)
    - management are clueless and look at only the money aspect
    - you are thrown in the deep end from day one without any guidance or real help
    - compassion is alien to them regardless of an employee's circumstances

    Advice to Management

    - get managers to give actual guidance and help to new employees.
    - do not treat people like objects which you can throw away when ever you want without a real reason
    - have some loyalty to your employees who go out of their way to work extra hours consistently to get projects completed for you

    Pros

Working in a support function I was lucky to work with some really nice people, and the office is in a fantastic location. Unfortunately I'm struggling to thing of anything else positive to say!

    Cons

Support services lacking any clear plan or structure, no direction, all about costs and not people, broken compensation promises, very high turn over, very long hours, very political, lot's of in fighting. You get the idea....

    Advice to Management

Work out what you're trying to achieve and how best to use the people you have to do so - dont just stick a body on a chair without any thought towards who they are, what their skills are, or what you actually want them to do.

  11. Seniors provided very good training and advice, Fast Paced

    Pros

People in the department provide very good training and development. They were very patient in explaining the accounting concepts.

    Cons

Office Culture: ICAP was going through a restructuring process for our department and it clearly affected the moral of the employees. Fortunately the leaders took the initiative to organise get together sessions to boast the moral within the department
The employees were very helpful in providing advice to each other.
