I worked at Imagination Technologies full-time

    Pros

It was a very nice experience working with quite a lot of smart people. The Work/Life balance is great. Flexible timings. The company is growing and has a bright future. If you are lucky or if you prove yourself, you can get to work on cutting-edge technologies. You get to interact/collaborate with some very smart and knowledgeable people working in the UK.

    Cons

Lack of good programming/development/Testing practices(or rather enforcement).
Over reliance on engineers working in the UK. Some amount of bureaucracy.
Some managers are not that motivated themselves and fail to motivate engineers in the team to keep going.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The interviewing procedures need to evolve.
It is wrong to assume that only people from reputed colleges are good engineers.
Get rid of the bureaucracy that does exists to some extent. Few very good engineers have left in the past because of that.
Train, learn, try and match the standard of engineers working in the UK in order to reduce the reliance on them.

    Pros

You do get useful experience on how the industry works and you get exposure to workflows etc. Compensation is decent I suppose.

    Cons

Very little creative work you can very easily get stuck with maintenance of nightmarish codebases with no say at all, all this contrary to the job spec. As a graduate you are completely expendable and unappreciated. You main activities will involve running behind other people's mess. Benefits such as stocks that you can cash in after 5 years and relocation expenses which you must pay back if you leave before 2 years are a joke.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more senior/talented people instead of swarms of graduates invest in good practices and build a better culture/environment.

Current Employee - Principal Engineer in Kings Langley, England (UK)
Current Employee - Principal Engineer in Kings Langley, England (UK)

I have been working at Imagination Technologies full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

+ Growing company with lots of young engineers, good mix of young and experienced engineers
+ Depending upon which division you're in you'd be encouraged to challenge yourself and others to make contributions for the right reasons
+ Much less politics than some other organizations
+ If you're constructive, people like to listen to you
+ Gym options, sports and social, shares and stock options, private health insurance (free for the employee)
+ You're encouraged to say the truth and do the right thing, in some case you're rewarded for doing so

    Cons

+ Training and other processes are somewhat younger than other organizations, but then there is a concerted effort to make things better
+ Generally good with infrastructure, but in some cases have gone overboard with styling and architecture and less focus on providing some essentials such as whiteboards
+ No talent recognition system, no plans to make sure the best employees get rewarded and the not so good ones managed out
+ No individual bonuses to a vast majority of employees
+ Salaries could be better given the proximity to London and cost of living

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

+ Think about employee retention a bit more
+ Have a talent recognition system
+ Prune the dead wood out

Top notch graphics knowledge but somewhat demeaning compensation

I have been working at Imagination Technologies full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

For the short stay I have had until now with the company I'm more satisfied then not. Mainly because as a young engineer I'm seeking to gain knowledge over money.
The company gives a unique work experience, it is a top dog on the mobile graphics market. The work tasks are very complex and require a certain amount of time to be spent before even starting doing something as easy as changing one line of code.
People are in general very helpful and most of the senior and principal guys aren't afraid of sharing the Do's and Don'ts.
Work and life balance is also very good - no white nights, no excessive extra hours spend after work.
In general very good company for new comers like me to learn, give back and create valuable relationships and connections.

    Cons

The management and hierarchical system is very chaotic and without any basic goals to be obtained before stepping up the ladder. In other words you can receive very good appraisals but be stuck at a position for many years just because your personal manager doesn't stick up to you or don't know how to play the office managerial politics game.
Salaries are bellow the average for the sector and the company knows it. They also know that the work is very complex but also if you have the passion for graphics hardware or software you don't really have that many options.
In general a demotivating environment for old employees who work a lot but don't shout it out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give clear objectives how and when people should progress. It can be really demotivating for a senior employee to see how the company at least on the side seem to cherish more the new comers. And I'm saying that from the position of a new comer.
Maybe include a bonus system so teams that do great are rewarded appropriately.
Obviously salary increases to at least follow the industry average would be nice too.

    I worked at Imagination Technologies

    Pros

Management team provides clear, visionary message to employees. Ample opportunities for career and professional growth with industry leader. Roadmap and expectations to achieve goals were clearly articulated.

    Cons

Compensation was below industry standard, especially long term incentive plan. Autocratic cultural values disempowered middle management. Support staffing was uncomfortably lean and seemed close to burnout.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Compare compensation and health benefits with Silicon Valley industry norm.
