I have been working at Insight full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Senior leadership--pretty impressive that the CEO knows most by name
Cafe and health center at headquarters
Good people work here and most care
    Sales rally event is cool

    Cons

    Benefits are substandard
Work from home policy is dept by dept-would be nice if they could extend that to all
    Sales staff not trained well
Buildings are old and tired; cube space is a joke
Marketing seemed in disarray until recently

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work from home-the policy needs to go all the way around...not just for HR and IT
Review benefits... They are not cutting it and you will lose out to competitors or to other local businesses

    Pros

I particularly liked the friendly atmosphere, and the career planning. They also stuck to team meetings where you could bring up issues/ concerns.

The regular personal one to one chats with team leaders was also very useful in gaining constructive feedback.

    Cons

Bank holidays had to be worked due to it being an international company.
There wasn't a plan in place when i got there to be able to earn a bonus.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up regular meetings take on board feedback.

    Pros

The company has undergone an transformation as the IT Channel evolves and so far has managed to stay on the wave and not sunk. The geographical spread offers a lot of prospects to relocate and they also like to promote from within which is good for careers prospects.

    Cons

Some middle managers can make the work life very difficult. The company is trying to become a solutions provider but is stuck in the box shifter mentality and this leads to internal conflict between hitting targets by just smashing out KPI's and actually doing what clients value/need/want and what actually makes profit and long term returns. Also, very process based methods for internal communications and work and can lead to long SLA's and bad internal client satisfaction.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reduce red tape, create smaller more dynamic 'sales' teams to be more agile and customer focused.

    Pros

Insight sells for all major IT companies, many of which are in office so there are tons of contacts and opportunities for growth.

    Cons

There is a lot of cold calling before you earn a client base so it can be pretty brutal first year or so.

    Pros

Lots of benefits, great teamwork, free outings, prizes. I learnt a lot about sales and technology and about attention to detail for every sale. You start off with a crap book and have to make your way to the top its dog eat dog and sales. Management knows who cares and who doesn;t, you can see who will last and who won't.

    Cons

Work life balance kind of sucks, a being a newb can be very tedious calling other peoples dropped clients, and not making progress even when you try hard as ever.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be nice to your new group help them out they do want to succeed and it is hard when first starting

I worked at Insight full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good co-workers, product training, cafe in building, lots of bathrooms, SWAG from vendors

    Cons

Quotas and metrics intentionally unobtainable so that commissions paid out are lower than industry standards (6% versus 12% or more elsewhere), constant revisions to pay structure and never to the employees benefit, poor health insurance coverage (10k deductible), Insight is funded by manufacturers in-house (HP, Lexmark, Adobe, Juniper, Lenovo, etc) and in turn forces employees to attend "training sessions" which provide no new information, yet takes away from sales time, which leads to not being able to makes sales and dials to achieve the quotas. Punished for a good sales month by given an even higher quotas the following quarter in ALL 5 categories (called "buckets").

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reward the high performers with something of real value, such as pay raises, better insurance and bonuses instead of plastic-cube plaques and letters from Ken Lamnick. Think about ways to reward and retain employees instead of how to chip away more their commissions each quarter to benefit yourselves.

    Pros

Not a lot of pros with this company. There maybe opportunities for advancement and a raise, but it depends on who you know, not what you know.

    Cons

A lot of cons, which explains the reason for such a high staff turnover. Bullying is the worst con in this organization; the problem is prevalent throughout all departments. The management are short-sighted and arrogant, from the team leaders all the way up to the senior vice-presidents.
Customer and vendor complaints are frequent, and much of the incompetence in the company is due to poor management decisions that lead to staff lay-offs at the end of every financial quarter.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Resign.

Lots of potential, however no Sales accoutability, paying half the industry commission rate will keep them mediocre!

    Pros

    Lots of things to sell!

    Cons

Poor work life balance, too many management changes, middle management is afraid to speak up and manage in fear of losing thier jobs. Poor at dividing territories to gain better market penetration, management will keep accounts vs doing what is best for the company. Many salary plan changes over the past 3 years which has been a continual downgrade.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get smart hold the AE's and Middle managment accountable for growing sales portfolio's, Many reps have accounts they do not work or call on, ie just passing electronic orders. Take away the bottom accounts from every rep, hire new reps on the commision that is already being paid out and penetrate the market.

    Pros

Good management team, Achievable targets and Australia/NZ had the ability to work that was autonomous to the ROW. No phone bashing and very strategic and intelligent selling.

    Cons

Lack of progression opportunity. It was quite hard to earn good commission in the SMB team.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the culture as it was in 2010/2011. I had great fun working the the Brookvale office in Sydney during my time in Australia.
