Current Employee - Carrier Sales Coordinator in Lowell, AR (US)

I have been working at J.B. Hunt full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The corporate culture is very friendly and inviting. Fortune 500 gives great exposure to large customers and all aspects of the transportation industry.

    Cons

Slow to react to internal issues or employee needs. Compensation no better than industry average.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put more emphasis on retaining talent and cutting turnover rate. Young workers get the impression that intelligence and hard work isn't valued like it should be.

    Pros

Pay, Rate of raises, benefits, great eating & exercise facilities on site.

    Cons

High Stress, High Competition. Everyone is at each others throats to move up and the pace is so quick that you have to be very careful not to drown. If it isn't something your heart is in it will eat you up.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give more PTO. Spread team work evenly. Recognize success and reward.

I have been working at J.B. Hunt full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Equipment is replaced every 3 years. Facilities are newer. Most management actually cares about their employees, all the way up to the regional director. They're very focused on keeping their employees safe. There's also a welcome distance kept between drivers and mechanics. There's a 4 day work week. Almost everyone in maintenance management started out working as a mechanic or a driver then moved up and you can too. They have discount programs with multiple nationwide company's like verizon, jeep, gm

    Cons

The pay is middle of the road and the benefits are a joke. Your required holidays come out of you're PTO and if you run out before a holiday expect a short paycheck. They are very strict when it comes to their standard repair times and they try to cut them down as often as they can. There's no overtime allowed. They often run out of soap and towels and won't order more until the month is out and anyone who has ever finished a dirty job can attest to the importance of being able to get clean.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There needs to be more manufacturer based training. PTO should not go towards national holidays. And health benefits needs a major overhaul

    Pros

Great benefits, Awesome support system, Informative management crew.

    Cons

Can not physically unload anymore. Trailers are just too hot to work in. Docks rarely have fans on them and those that do rarely ever use them.

    Bring back the exit interview.

Former Employee - Fleet Manager in Houston, TX (US)

I worked at J.B. Hunt full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Stable job if you could tolerate all the politics.

    Cons

Blatant favoritism in the SW region. Unethical managers and pay was lower than expected considering the work load. Positions created out of thin air for friends and family of Operations Mangers, while deserving supervisors remained stuck in the same positions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take every course on leadership and read every book on diversity in the workplace that's out there. Understand that high turnover is a sign that you have failed the employee. Also, you get what you pay for, if only fresh college grads are applying for your positions expect a lot of bumps in the road while they learn common things that most people with a couple years experience already know how to handle. Also expect the same issues to occur over and over because most supervisors leave the company within a year or two, in the SW region.
