    Pros

The pay was great. There are very few jobs you can get fresh out of college that will pay this well. There are plenty of opportunities for advancement. They give you a lot of power to make decisions.

    Cons

There is no work/life balance. You are expected to work both Christmas Eve and the day after Christmas. Every holiday works this way. You will work very long hours. After you are home since you have a company laptop and cell phone you are still required to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Staff more.

I have been working at J.B. Hunt full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Lots of emphasis on safety, most personnel are friendly and accessible.

    Cons

Very low pay, poor communication, lots of downtime. Management is accessible, but do not follow through on their promises.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This is a 24-hour industry...yet anytime before 9am or after 4pm, fleet managers and other office personnel are completely unavailable, not to mention on weekends and holidays. Understandably, people need days off; But you expect so many hours out of drivers that I don't think it would hurt you to put in a few more yourself. Additionally, your night and weekend dispatchers and managers are completely clueless and inept.
It is very frustrating when I approach management with a problem, it is acknowledged, and I'm told it will be fixed...Then we go right back to the same problem, as if the entire conversation was forgotten immediately.
Pay desperately needs to be raised, as this is easily the lowest-paying company I've ever worked for; Your policies on detention pay and standby pay need to be improved, as well.

I have been working at J.B. Hunt full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Experience with fast paced team setting. Learn to network within large companies. Some flexibility with work hours. They are a few good people to learn from.

    Cons

Managers to young and lack experience. Don't know how to handle most situations. Makes the job hard to take seriously if your managers do not care. Don't set any long term goals. Upper management has little involvement with small offices.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Needs to be a better selection process for field management. Lack of connection to corporate office in field branches.

    I worked at J.B. Hunt full-time

    Pros

If you live in NW Arkansas, they will likely hire you eventually due to constant turnover in basic positions.

    Cons

Poor leadership, no core values, no sustainable culture, high turnover of talented leaders and meritless promotion of less talented 'hanging on' leaders. Brokerage operation is a true sweat-shop with commission driven cold-calling, just look around at the age group...they draw desperate college grads in only to grind-them-up in 6 months or so. No cafeteria, the gym is a joke, being an executive is a social status achievement and contributes to the absolute void of direction by the organization.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

spend more time and energy building the values of the organization and less time feeding-off the company earnings. Address real leadership gaps, create and empower a true performance management process.
