ProsAs the big 6 turned to the big 4 and then the big? Jefferies is strong, and will remain.

ConsCompansation not as competitive as it should be. Could be more internal opportunity communicated more broadly.

Pros-Senior management extremely willing to teach new employees
-Clear company structure, no bureaucracy
-Good compensation
-Honest management
-Tuition Reimbursement
-

Cons-Schedule not flexible for entry level positions
-Limited growth opportunities
-Hard to switch out of a particular group once settled

Advice to Senior ManagementIt would great for senior management to assign mentors to new employees. Allow new employees to explore different groups before assigning them to a specific area.

Prosnot many ----pay is at least in line with other firms

Consjust for everyone's reference in the future ---probably should try to stay away from jefferies for summer internships---at least for trading
in fixed income they told us they would be hiring 70 to 80% of the analysts for the program----then even on the last day of the internship they told us they would hire 6 or 7 of the 10 interns----

to make matters worse, not only did they take an extra 3 weeks then they were supposed to to give offer decisions----but they only hired 2 people----

furthermore, the program is extremely unstructured---theres no formal training---and the whole mentality among people there has nothing to do with giving an intern a positions---there's no mentorship program---the EM desk literally told us from the start that they only hire people with experience---the advice is to stay away coming from someone that had offers at multiple BB programs and ended up obv. not getting an offer....

ranting because i just saw a video on their new careers site with their head of FI saying how they are now focusing on building internally via hiring junior people----when that is a bunch of crap (at least for fixed income)

extremely unprofessional HR treatment

Advice to Senior Managementget the intern program more organized---don't mislead kids into taking a position with the firm when there's an extremely small chance of getting hired----build a training program--support and have HR honor a date of commitment

ProsThis is a growing firm with many career opportunities. The work/life is challenging, but similar to other banks. In general, the quality of the people is excellent.

ConsSince it's a new Company, many issues, like sharing information between groups has not been fully resolved. Also, the hours can be long for people not used to investment banking.

Advice to Senior ManagementVery strong leadership that's built the business from scatch.

ProsSince it is a small shop, you have a good opportunity to learn and progress within the firm. Less bureaucracy than other shops.

ConsIf there are no deals going on, work can be really boring and compensation will be hit hard. Smaller groups compared to other firms so less opportunity to grow network.

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease work hard for deal flows. If there are no deal flows, please help in assigning more meaningful tasks. Thank you.

ProsFree coffee. Location, location, and location.

ConsJersey City location - Office enviroment too small. No bathroom on first floor. Must use bathroom in restaurant.

Advice to Senior ManagementOne one hand almost everyone gets two monitors but on the other hand the most you afford for a stapler is $2.00.

ProsFraternal type of enviornment with a emphasis on hard work. At times, long hours and not much emphasis on facetime.

ConsCould use some more structure but as the cmopany has a start-up type of feel, this is expected. Management is working rapidly to put in the necessary structure.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement can be a bit more congenial and friendly to new recruits they have hired. Step out of the office a bit more and say hello!

ProsThe company is growing like a bat out of hell (i.e., 2008) -- though it actually avoided that carnage. Jefferies is growing in the U.S. and is now expanding aggressively into Europe and Asia.
While some managers are merely competent, the better ones are sound, practical and run the company.

ConsThings are happening almost too fast which ample opportunity for poor execution and operational error....so hold on tight.

Advice to Senior ManagementThere's no downside to overcommunicating in greater detail and with more frequency what's going on within the firm.

ProsA lot of enthusiastic people - and a lot of them quite young.
They are building things for the future and so there is quite some activity.

ConsBut then you realize that the old boy network and mentality is still present. In this day and age is mistifying that this can still take place. I mean look how inefficient you can be and how many mistakes will be made by hiring people who have no knowledge of the business you are trying to build. Just because they are your buddies ? For gods sake there is one PM who was a HR person before now responsible your next trading platform... really ?

Advice to Senior ManagementNo advice really - other than stop beeing so arrogant. You really do not know what you are talking about.
