    Pros

Gives the ability to work nights and do school during the day. Company set on values as a group over an individual.

    Cons

Management is lackluster and unprofessional, Managing based on friends instead of employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take some proper management courses / actually training managers would be beneficial.

Current Employee - Assistant Produce Manager in Denver, CO (US)

I have been working at King Soopers full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Flexibility in scheduling
There are a handful of good managers, but anymore it seems like they've become harder to find
If you can work at a location that is close to home, you can have little to no commute
The grocery industry will always be there, you don't have to worry about job security

    Cons

    Scheduling can be a drag
Not many people are happy with their job right now, and it can a very "Debbie Downer" atmosphere
Promotions seem to go to those in the "Good Ol' Boys Club"
Starting pay isn't great in comparison to other jobs

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A lot of promotions seem to come from outside of the company. There are pros and cons in hiring from within and from outside of the company, but with the way the culture of the company has been, to me it seems odd to be hiring from outside. I know of many people that I feel deserve promotions that don't get them because they've hired from outside, and in specific cases, hired from competitors (such as Wal-Mart). I don't feel that the culture from Wal-Mart and King Soopers in anywhere close to being the same and I can't justify upper management hiring without looking to its own employees first.

    Pros

It was easy, co-workers were easy to get along with, easily got promoted

    Cons

Scheduling (they scheduled me only during class), management, I was treated like a child by management and I'm an adult, they avoided giving employees full time so that we couldn't get benefits

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you care about your employees, they will care about you.

I have been working at King Soopers part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

-Great way to meet people and friends, especially if you're 18-25.
-Variety of positions, upfront to backroom

    Cons

-High turnover, makes teaching new employees difficult, especially inter-department (like how the front end can best help grocery and vice versa, etc.)
    -Communication issues

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Make it easier for your employees to do their job. If something is inefficient, fix it. If something is broken, fix it!
-We could also do with less mind-numbing corporate initiatives. 6 S's, 5 KEYS, 4 HATS, 3 STEPS, 2 GOALS, and a Partridge in a Pear Tree, etc

I have been working at King Soopers part-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

I got in before the contract that ruined the pay and benefits for new hires so I have great pay and benefits. Many great co-workers.

    Cons

Management has gone downhill. Use to be only the deserving and well trained who got it. Now it's any Joe-Smo Kiss Up who puts in for it who gets it. Management now runs off of a bully mentality too. Kiss up to get it, be a bully to keep it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Say "NO" to bullying.

I have been working at King Soopers part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Get the 10% on Kroger items

    Cons

Crappy wages even with experience behind the belt, wont cross train into other departments because of lack of coverage

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop having fake managers who can't keep their mouths shut long enough. Pay employees who knows how to do the job and has the time instead of giving bs excuses on a credit thing, Let us go to other stores if we want to be crossed trained instead of being force to stay in one position all the time, this is why turnover is high and employees are burn out.

    Pros

Its a paycheck that got me through college. Benefits after one year.

    Cons

Not a reliable schedule. Hours were never guaranteed. Employers were unsatisfied. Had to join the union no choice had to give up money to them. I've been harassed by managers just because they didn't like me.Including being written up for no good reason what so ever. Under appreciated.Train idiots to be managers.
