Current Employee – been working at Lockheed Martin full-time for more than 10 years

ProsIt's a very big corporation with lots of people, so if you're really smart and work hard, you will climb the corporate ladder fairly quickly.

ConsLimited opportunities if you do not have security clearance. Lots of business depends on government, so it's not always the place where the most current/trendy stuff gets made.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe performance evaluation process is a joke.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Marietta, GA (US)

Current Employee – been working at Lockheed Martin full-time for more than a year

ProsGood paying job and opportunity to work up in the company. Excellent 401k benefits. The work environment is very relaxed with no pressure.

ConsThe pension plan has been eliminated for anyone that's considered a new hire. The health care plan benefits are not the best.

Advice to Senior ManagementAppreciate the ones that work hard and let them know it. Make readily available the resources needed for employees to do there job.

Current Employee – been working at Lockheed Martin full-time for more than a year

ProsFlexibility
Benefits
Time Off
Reputation of Company
They pay for school and its not BS like most companies

ConsWork with some people who are burned out
There is politics, but it isn't to the extreme i've seen at other companies
Bureaucracy can hinder productivity

Advice to Senior ManagementTry to be more open minded when it comes to hearing ideas from employees. Otherwise, I feel this is a great company to work for.

Marietta, GA (US)

Current Employee – been working at Lockheed Martin full-time

ProsStable company even though continued budget cuts. If contracts are cut and work is slow, they will try to place you in a temporary position or relocate you to another division as opposed to firing you. There are many challenging opportunities and opportunities to travel both domestic and internationally (depending on which program you work for). The people take great pride in their work.

ConsAt Aeronautics in Marietta, if you are not production, it is hard to advance. You basically have to move a mountain or get connected with the right person.

Hard to move around in the same location. If you want to switch positions, you basically have to move to a different business unit.

Pay is ok but raises are not as good as other organizations.

Management tends to loose focus as they climb the ladder.

Large generation gap. Too many people are only talking about retirement instead of innovative ideas.

Advice to Senior ManagementInvest more in consistantly hiring young, talented individuals to replace all of the "baby boomers" that are about to leave very soon. We do not need to continue to have this gap in knowledge in the future.

Sunnyvale, CA (US)

Current Employee – been working at Lockheed Martin full-time for more than 10 years

ProsMany areas to try out. If you get bored of your job, you can transfer to another department. Great work life balance.

ConsLow compensation for good performance. Bonus are really small if any. Not incentivized to save the company money.

Fort Worth, TX (US)

Current Employee – been working at Lockheed Martin full-time for more than 7 years

ProsStrong IT training, strong career focus, good yearly review in place finaly. Great team I work with. Good 401K + Capital program with strong website to manage it all and help you see retirement goal vs actual. Strong comunication from top mgt on down, we all know what our goal is. 10 float holidays + 3 weeks vacation + with a 9/80 work schedule we are off every other Friday. The company here in fort worth is closed xmas week ( you do use 2-3 float holiday days for that) but its great no matter.

ConsOffice furniture stuck in the 1960s, no sinks in the break area.

Advice to Senior ManagementSpend the $$s to renovate the office areas.

Eagan, MN (US)

Current Employee – been working at Lockheed Martin full-time for more than 3 years

ProsLockheed Martin has talented and quality engineers. You get to work on exciting and innovative projects. There is a wide range of work across many work locations.

ConsTechnology seems to always be ten years behind the times. Too much of the leadership refuses to make risky decisions, and the primary customer is unwilling and incapable of accepting change.

Advice to Senior ManagementInvest in your greatest asset, the minds of your employees. Don't making keeping up with your profession something that you have to do on your own time.

Dallas, TX (US)

Former Employee – worked at Lockheed Martin full-time for more than 7 years

ProsIndustry leader in defense. Top quality products to support the warfighter.

ConsFor upward growth, you have to be willing to relocate. As a former manger, I was forced by senior management to rate my employees into a bell curve with 90% as Satisfactory employees even though they deserved better ratings.
Benefits are not as good, or cheap as you'd expect from a large company.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet rid of forced distribution of annual performance. It demotivated people.

Washington, DC (US)

Former Employee – worked at Lockheed Martin full-time for more than a year

ProsLarge company ensuring stability and longevity. It has a hand in a lot of different and diverse projects. The opportunity for growth and experience is almost limitless

ConsBenefits are poor. When Lockheed loses a re-compete, employees are given the opportunity to find other work within the company that may not fit your skill set or career path. If an employee decides to stay with the winning contractor, all accumulated bonues with Lockheed are forfeited

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus on career growth is great. However focus should be maintained on paying employees industry-standard rates and keeping good employee benefits

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
