Cons – Too many layers of disrespectful management and not enough qualified workers.

Current Employee – been working at Maimonides Medical Center full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Great health benefits for 1199 members, when you make 5 years you get 4 weeks vacation, flexible and understanding Manager when it comes to work schedule and family issues. Manager/Supervisor will work with staff.
Cons – You have staff that have been at the company who refuse to learn other colleagues work, they pick
and choose what they want to learn.
If you are computer savvy they try to get you
to teach them how to use the program(s) in the department when they have an MIS department who
has staff who is specialized in assisting.
If you are quiet or do not like confrontation they allow other staff members to harass, talk to you how they may normally speak to a family member at home.
In addition, if you are a new person and you are capable of learning different area's of jobs in the department it now is expected of you to perform that job when the usual person who does the job may have called out sick or is on vacation or has a personal day off. The job function isn't rotated between staff who has been their for a long time and someone who is new.
The patients lie and cheat the system and if you realize it the patients attempt to make you feel like you are crazy for even bringing it to their attention. When systems are running slow or you are taking care of a cuurent patient, the new patient isn't understanding of the issue with the system, or they become very inpatient and rude with you.
Advice to Senior Management – Make sure all staff members are at the same level when it comes to using computer applications or office technology. Make sure all staff members are knowledgable in doing each others job regardless if they have been there for a long time or are new. Have Supervisors/Managers available to monitor how staff members treat each other in their presence, and out of their presence.

Current Employee – been working at Maimonides Medical Center
Pros – Its a job and i get a paycheck, i get medical covarage, with some other perks.
Cons – Maimonides has alot of money for the hosp for remodeling exp.the lobby but staff is understaffed over worked and under payed.
Advice to Senior Management – appreciate the middle man in th hosp we work hard. And we are the ones that keep the hosp running.

Pros – Maimonides has some of the most extensive computerization of the patient care record in the country. The MIS department is convenient to public transportation.
Cons – Management operates from the view that bullying is good and does not know how to interact with a professional staff. It is difficult to create a team to work on improvements and go-lives because it is like a revolving doors. Some project managers are worse than others and therefore their team is constantly changing. It is not uncommon to have an 8 am meeting scheduled on the same day as a 5 pm meeting for a 9-5 position. Then management will call you in and ask why you left 5 minutes early. 'My or the highway' is a phrase often heard within the confines of the former auto garage, now the MIS department, across the street from live chicken industry..
Advice to Senior Management – Change the entire upper level management's mindset. Physical and verbal abuse needs to stop.

Former Employee – worked at Maimonides Medical Center
Pros – Good community hospital in a great neighborhood in Brooklyn.
Cons – Weak protections for employees. I went to Human Resources because I felt my boss was abusive and emotionally unstable. Colleagues had told me my boss had a history of picking on one person in the office. HR never helped me and my boss fired me within days of my "confidential" meeting with HR.
Advice to Senior Management – Doctors without budgetary and managerial experience should not be made department heads.

Pros – 1199 union. Job security. Benefits
Cons – Very very very busy---compensation may not equal amount of work.
Advice to Senior Management – Appreciate employees & how hard they work.

Former Employee – worked at Maimonides Medical Center
Pros – The benefits and vacation were the best part of working at Maimondies hospital. Okay pentition plan and health benefits were very cheap. It is very interesting to work in a hospital and learn about medicine. The Human Resource department offered a lot of discounts at Amusement parks and cell phone companies. Every year we got a 3 percent raise. Every employess was give a pager. It was very easy to make plans for vacation. We were give generous amount of sick days and personal days. There a garage for the employess to use and the price was cheap. There was also a cafeteria that was cheap
Cons – The pay was horrible and unfair compared to other hospitals in NYC. The doctors were very rude when you had to service their computer. No overtime and no communication within the MIS department. When I left they didnt try to make me stay or make me an offer. Made a lot of promises and didnt come through with any. The MIS department had two separate locations one in the hospital and the other in a different building 10 blocks away. So we were split up. Didnt know what different teams were working on. The staff was kept in the dark about a lot of things.
Advice to Senior Management – Have to restructure upper management.
