I worked at Manulife Financial as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

My manager was super nice and helpful and all of my coworkers were very supportive. They love to bring interns into some real projects and help them to develop their own skill set. Sometimes, they even hand you a new model to build up from scratch, which is challenging but fun.

    Cons

Since the company is a pretty big organization so that you won't get exposure to all aspects through your work term, and it would be better they give interns a business unit position.

  3.

Overall a good learning experience with a reputable firm.

I have been working at Manulife Financial as an intern

    Pros

    Pros include:
    - Great atmosphere / work environment
    - good work / life balance
    - No real training, more of 'in the job'

    Cons

Compensation was average / industry norm for the most part. No real perks.
I felt as if promotions were random and given based on people leaving rather than you actually deserved it.

    Pros

Big company with a lot of smart people.

    Cons

Terrible senior management, lack of feedback and transparency for the work. Do not care about your career development. Only had two team meetings during my time there, each time lasted less than 10 minutes. Most of the work process are very manual, just like working in "dark age"... No proper documentation. Laid off many people last year

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pros

Great work experience. Numerous of opportunities ranging from their US division, corporate, and affinity markets. Flexible work options and plenty of networking opportunities.

    Cons

Management seems to be more focused on short term profits and providing shareholders value, rather than their own employee's well-being. Can be expected to put in consistent long hours.
