I have been working at Marriott full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Marriott has a fun, family like culture. An open door policy applies among all levels of associates at the property level. Development and growth within the company is highly encouraged. The way to be promoted is to transfer between different hotels, and sometimes across disciplines.

    Cons

Like any job in the hospitality industry, the work-life balance is tough. For hourly associates, schedules often come out weekly, on Thursdays before the coming week. This makes it very difficult to plan your life with family and friends. Managers are required to work a minimum of 50 hours per week, and 55-60+ is more typical.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be careful of how much you push or overload people. Overloading an associate or manager "for their own development" may just push good talent out instead of up.
