Lots of opportunities if you are willing to put in the effort...

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Mobile Doctors full-time

ProsIn the time I spent at Mobile Doctors, I've advanced quite a bit, as have many of my peers. This company cares about fostering your growth potential, so long as you do the work to show that you are capable and willing.

I also feel like I have the support of my co-workers. If I am concerned about something company-related, I can safely raise the issue to one of many people in the corporate office, and get a usually helpful response.

The atmosphere is fairly relaxed and casual. The company sponsors a lot of fun activities and events. This is a nice break when you have a long week.

The company recently brought HR and payroll in-house, so I saved a hundred dollars per month on my medical insurance. We now have an HR rep who works for the company, and therefore is more invested in my happiness as an employee. Because he works for the company, he wants to do a good job and goes the extra mile to satisfy employees' needs. Our last HR company just ignored my questions.

There is a thorough 100-day review and annual reviews, which both the employee and the manager fill out and discuss. This gives the employee a chance to really show off anything that may not be evident on a daily basis. This is a great time so long as you are doing a good job.

The company is experiencing a great deal of growth, so if you can handle it then there are opportunities.

ConsThe company has had some bad press of late. There are a lot of bad rumors spreading around. The 90% turnover rate is a lie. In my location the turnover is probably closer to 15%. I'm aware that some of the other locations are higher, but it's nowhere near 90% on the whole. Also, yes, there had been a few instances of unprofessional behavior by certain employees, but the negative reviews failed to mention that disciplinary actions were taken, including termination. There is drama, but that's to be expected when there is so much growth, and employees who are uncomfortable with any situation have our HR department to discuss their concerns safely.

This is not a company for clockwatchers. Every job is vital to the success of Mobile Doctors and the well-being of patients and employees. If you are a manager, you will have to work some late evenings and weekends, although not often. One thing that is clear - if you do not perform your work as is required of you, it will become transparent soon enough, and that often accounts for the turnover.

Advice to Senior ManagementEven though the company is growing and you need to hire more people, take extra time to really vet an employee before making the offer to hire - don't just go on instinct or because you need someone right away. That's how you end up with bad seed employees who can do a good interview but can't measure up work-wise.

Dynamic, fast-paced environment where you can create your own career path!

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Chicago, IL (US)

I have been working at Mobile Doctors full-time for more than 3 years

ProsIn full disclosure, I will share that I am writing this review as a current manager within Mobile Doctors, so my viewpoints come from that perspective. That said, I would list the following as our "pro" points:

- We have an extremely open environment, in all senses. We have transparency in communication and directives and all managers have open-door policies. We empower our employees to speak up, think outside of the box, and create their own opportunities.

- Our culture is positive, supportive, and relaxed. Healthcare is a stressful environment and our patient population is a particularly under-served one with unique challenges. Because of this, we encourage our employees to have fun at work, engage with each other, and blow off steam when they need to! We celebrate birthdays and holidays, we have team sports and employee appreciation events, and we are always looking for ways to boost morale and show people how much they are appreciated.

- Because of our flexible and ever-changing company/industry, we offer a unique opportunity to create your own career path. Employees are encouraged to take on new tasks and responsibilities, and we have a commitment to promoting from within - we want our employees to know that Mobile Doctors is a place to make a career and not just have a job! Due to our rapid growth, we are able to offer promotional opportunities in existing locations, chances to join new offices and relocate, and newly created positions that are made specifically to suit an individual's skill sets and ambitions.

- Above all else, we can make a promise of never being bored! Like most healthcare organizations, we are fast-paced, dynamic, and never lacking for things to do. Regardless of your position, no two days at Mobile Doctors are ever the same.

All in all, Mobile Doctors is a one-of-a-kind opportunity (for the right person - please see the "Cons" section). It's a place where you can settle down and know you will have limitless opportunities to move on the ladder - whether that be sideways into something new or upwards on the path you're already on. You'll be surrounded by other ambitious, hard-working, supportive people and will not only have a successful career, but a lot of FUN while you're having it!

ConsI believe all of the "Pros" at Mobile Doctors have complementary "Cons" and would list the following as our "con" points:

- While our open environment is great in many ways, it can also be a "con". We're supportive and a nice group, but we do have high standards and expect people to perform their job functions; we give praise when it's due, but are also quick to correct things when needed. Sometimes our criticism and correction is just as visible as our praise. We use mistakes as shared learning experiences which, for some people, can lead to embarrassment. We make it a point to be clear about this style of learning and management during the interview process, so that no one is ever surprised by it. But it is definitely an openness and transparency that isn't for everyone!

- Because our culture is so relaxed and we strive to make things fun, it doesn't always provide the structure that some employees need. We do put a lot of onus on employees - to make sure they're engaged in their own training, that they're managing their own duties, that they know they are empowered to speak up if they have any issues, etc. This can lead to some people feeling as though they are "floating". I would definitely caution anyone who functions best in a heavily regimented environment to seriously consider whether our structure is one in which they could be successful, before applying.

Overall, Mobile Doctors employees are the most successful if they are ambitious, creative, open to change, and comfortable in a fast-paced, unique environment. We offer many opportunities for individuals who fit that bill!

Follow Your Gut - Hold Out for Something Better

Recruiter (Former Employee)
Chicago, IL (US)

I worked at Mobile Doctors full-time for less than a year

Pros- With a Degree, it's easy to get a job here, and the experience looks great on your resume.
- The services provided to the community are needed, making your job feel somewhat relevant to the greater good.
- Very generous with titles.

Cons- Overall culture of fear due to micro-management of the CEO. Everyone from the bottom up throw each other under buses to avoid backlash.
- Management seem blind to the fact that company culture is what leads to their 90% turnover rate.
- Office gossip is overwhelming, at every level.
- Salaried individuals are taken advantage of. There's an enormous disconnect between low wages and the overtime one is expected to put in.
- Although the services provided to the elderly population are important, many of the physicians have malpractice suits against them.
- The culture of fear, gossip, and being taken advantage of will ultimately lead you away from this company. Managers that tolerate the treatment they receive by the CEO are generally the types of people that like to pay that type of treatment forward. Also, many managers don't hold the people skills or education that their staff does. Talented, professional people generally use their roles here as a stepping stone into another company.
- Everything that is beyond your control will be your fault.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe market has changed. The unemployment rate is falling. There is no way you can retain talented staff unless management behavior and the low salary structure change.

Dishonest and unprofessional

Office (Current Employee)
Chicago, IL (US)

I have been working at Mobile Doctors full-time for more than a year

ProsAlmost impossible to get fired unless you stealing money from the owner. Incompetent? Rude? Apply here! The pay is OK. There are a lot of companies out there offering worse.

ConsUnprofessional. People being condescending to patients on the phone. Yelling at each other. Petty gossip. Doctors with drug and alcohol problems and malpractice suits. Management plays favorites usually towards the newest people so you might think you have a good job for the first bit before they turn on you. Management deliberately pits employees against each other, promising the same promotion to more than one person to see how much extra work they will do while in suck-up mode, and then hiring from outside anyways. Constant promises that it's not always like this and it will be better as soon as whatever happens. If you don't work overtime they accuse you of not valuing your time as much as some people but if you work too much overtime they accuse of you stretching your hours. You'll see things happen that are just plain wrong (like violating labor laws and stuff) and they'll tell you that this how everybody does business so just deal with it.

Very Misleading... Stay Far Away

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Detroit, MI (US)

I have been working at Mobile Doctors full-time

Pros- Rapid expansion of branches (new offices)
- Jobs are easily acquired by college grads
- Full time employees are eligible for benefits after 90 days
- Interviews are simple

Cons- Job descriptions promise advancement and management training, but that hook line is used to attract recent college grads. Advancement may come sooner than with other companies, but is due to the fact that the turnover rate of the company is about 90%.
- Management is very young and inexperienced; only out for personal gain.
- The office environment is very negative.
- Gossip within the work place is in over-abundance.
- The company is not as invested in the quality of care that they claim to provide to seniors. Many of the doctors have malpractice or harassment actions against them (which can be easily be found because it is public record).
- CEO uses scare tactics
- Very unprofessional. After an employee is fired, a "30 second dance party" is announced over the PA system.
- Anything that you share with management (example: reason for being out sick, personal problems) are not kept private. That information is openly shared with all employees.
- Employees are severely overworked and underpaid. If you log too much overtime (which often happens), the company puts you on salary. Since going salary, I have increased my weekly hours by 10 hrs per week. They definitely take advantage of your time.
- The company promotes alcohol consumption. If you do not drink, you will feel extremely isolated at company events. We had an employee who did not consume alcohol because of a religious background and management was not accepting of them. In fact, they made that employee the butt of their jokes.
- The company has a high turnover rate and because of this, employees are often responsible for the work of 2+ positions.
- 100 day reviews are not completed on time by management.
- HR has now moved in-house which benefits the company because they are able to get away with/sweep more issues under the rug.
- Cold calls are made to seniors who have illnesses that affect their memory. Appointments are pushed on them even if they are reluctant. Sometimes the company will do drive-bys to the seniors homes if they were unable to confirm an appointment over the phone.
- The company is concerned more about the number of patients seen (Medicare reimburses based the # of visits) and not the quality of care these patients are receiving.

Advice to Senior ManagementRealize that a high turnover rate indicates a problem from within. Take a serious look at how your branches are managed... and hire more experienced employees starting from the top down.

Mobile Doctors has been a fulfilling experience, that has provided me with the professional development I was seeking.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Mobile Doctors full-time

ProsMobile Doctors takes the time to invest in employees. I had the best training I have EVER had. This company also rewards hard work. I was promoted at my 100 day review. This is the type of place that will recognize you if you are meeting/exceeding expectations. You truly can create your own professional future at this company.

ConsWe recently moved, and my commute is much longer than it was before. Also, I don't have as many public transportation options, as I used to have at the other location.

Has great potential, but inept management will destroy some of their satellite offices

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Mobile Doctors part-time for less than a year

ProsIn a market where it's difficult for college graduates to immediately land a job, this company grants you a chance to get experience and is a decent stepping-stone to more lucrative jobs in the healthcare management arena. They also tout the notion of promoting within their company, so there seems to be opportunities for advancement at a fairly young age, and with the goal to open 3-4 offices every calendar year, some people may be able to open a new office in a location of their choosing.

ConsSome advancements perhaps happen way too early---4-6 months for advancement is too early for a 22 or 23-year old (unless they are making absolutely GENIUS moves which is often not the case), and especially for those older staff that lack emotional maturity. It is often you will encounter ineffectual leaders in this company, especially those that embrace the notion of micromanagement and passive-aggressive approaches to things. Also, be wary of the prospect of advancement---you may get pushed into a role that doesn't match your skill set because your office is desperate for staff, and they don't want to train a new hire. The CEO often puts blind faith in inept people and their decisions, avoiding confrontation if necessary, and the worst is that they have yet to see their new offices, months after they have gone live. Beware of the HR department too---they used to go by a 3rd-party company, but as of 2013, have made their HR internal. This can be frightening as it gives them free reign to engage in questionable decisions with more freedom. You will also find great disorganization in several of the offices, and with the desire to open 3-4 offices each year, quality (providing offices with the adequate tools and resources to function properly) gets sacrificed. Lastly, don't expect loyalty to hold true in this company---you can be working for this company for months and be promised a position for advancement and will get passed up on a promotion by someone who interviews on the first day.

Advice to Senior ManagementTo the CEO: you should realize that when a manager has high turnover in their offices, that should be a red flag. A "my way or the highway" approach is not going to bring you the best employees. You should encourage growing your current personnel and embracing their talents, and realize that your leaders might be the problem. This would help morale, and maybe your staff would want to stay around---at HQ and satellite offices.

This is one of a few companies that thinks micromanagement works; it doesn't. Give people a chance and flexibility to use their broad range talents, and also acknowledge that every regional market is different---you shouldn't have to put a cookie cutter approach to establishing a branch office.

Good Job Out of College

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Mobile Doctors full-time

ProsMobile Doctors is eager to hire new college grads, so it is easy to secure a position within the company. The company is also experiencing a lot of growth, so there are some opportunities for advancement.

Cons-Upper management/CEO uses scare tactic management in attempt to correct mistakes.
-It is almost impossible/frowned upon to take vacation time since there are limited employees at the branches.
-Poor benefits, lowest tier salary, raises/reviews are not done as scheduled due to lack of time for employees.
-issues with communication and organization due to limited staffing and growth of the company
-cold calls to seniors, almost seemingly conning podiatry patients into medical services.
-hiring of inadequate doctors because of low salary- most have histories of malpractice suits, firings, etc. the doctors are needed to grow the business so disciplinary measures are few and far between.
-CEO treats employees as they are just a number, often insulting in front of employees they manage
-Often work 12 hour days, work hours are 8:30-4:30 regularly, so there is not a paid lunch period or room for a lunch at all
-Meetings are filled with gossip, often issues don't get resolved.

Advice to Senior ManagementOrganization, respect and appreciate your employees, pay higher wages, or expect frequent turnover.

Mobile Doctors

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Mobile Doctors

ProsNearly 100% of all promotions come from within. Due to aggressive growth plans, new positions and/or leadership opportunities are always being created to reward employee's who excel in their current position. Mobile Doctors also gives new college grads a chance who don't necessarily have a lot of work experience. These new grads go through a thorough training program where they get exposure to all departments in a branch office.

ConsAlthough there is an employee parking lot, sometimes it is a little difficult to find parking in the morning but I guess that is just the city of Chicago for you!
