Pros – No Experience or Education is required to come on board. You go through 3 tiers of interviews, but as long as you don't have a felony, you will be offerred a job. They will work with you every step of the way to ensure that you pass the state exam (about a 1-2 week study-cram). Then you are given a rebate (refund of exam and licensing fee) when you pass. Your computer, business cards, and other incidental biz expenses are credited to you and taken out of your paycheck, gradually.
Cons – Must have abouth a 6-month business expense to live on. It will be at least a month before you will start receiving income. So you must pay for transportation and supplies. Leads are cold (luke-warm at best). Low name recognition of "Modern Woodment". Extensive 1-week District training in Rock Island, IL, is given after you have been on your own for about 6 months. The training was good, but very late.
Advice to Senior Management – Give the District training immediately after the agent passes the state exam and BEFORE having the agent selling, unsupervised.

Pros – MWA is a Fraternal organization with terrific customer loyalty. They have a very solid training program. Their benefits are terrific, especially their health insurance program.
Cons – You are paid on by commission, which, for the self-motivated, is actually a plus. It is a big consideration for most folks and should not be taken lightly.

I have been working at Modern Woodmen
Pros – For the home office staff I am sure it is a great place to work with lots of job security. The field staff has its challenges which is always true for life insurance sales. But MWA has some of the best prospecting tools available if you learn how to use them. This market is under going tremendous change with many younger customers buying online. The overall customer satisfaction with MWA is very high! While MWA is very conservation they have recently approved and supported using social media sites for marketing, a bold move for them. They had their best year for new business ever in 2010, so they must be doing something right!
Cons – The strong reliance on referral based client growth only could be improved with advocating and supporting more modern prospecting techniques.
Advice to Senior Management – Keep the communications open with the next generation of agents and managing agents in order to keep up with the accelerating marketing chances in the industry. Consider online marketing and direct purchases, the "people when you want them, technology when you don't" approach tied to a strong field staff sales support.

I have been working at Modern Woodmen
Pros – -You were able to create your own schedule and they were very flexible with accomodating different training sessions.
Cons – -The fact they represent themselves as financial advisors is scary. They have no knowledge other than how to talk people up and make them feel like they know what they are talking about.
-They give no base pay to start out and the training they provide is inadequate.
-Their business model is to bring in as many people as possible, have them call all their friends and family, and whoever survives they enjoy the roll down from their comissions and who doesn't is not their problem.
Advice to Senior Management – Stop tricking innocent people into believing you know what you're talking about. Gain some type of knowledge of what your selling and stop trying to throw the product with the biggest commission at every client no matter their present situation.

I have been working at Modern Woodmen
Pros – You get to start business relationships with new people and usually develop a close friendship with them after a little while. Furthermore, if you work harder than others you will literally get paid for it because there is absolutely no salary cap on how much money you can make
Cons – You have to deal with people in regard to their personal finances which can be a sensitive topic sometimes.
Advice to Senior Management – We must make sure all new agents have an intimate understanding with our products before letting them go out on their own.

I have been working at Modern Woodmen
Pros – Great place to work. The culture and leadership are better than I expected and the oppportunity for advancment is excellent. Building a business is not easy but with the training and assistance from management it is easier. The trips are Great and free. Can't beat that. Going to Maui next month!!
Cons – It will take a while to grow your business. Long hard days the first few years. Sometimes the money is lean but the good times far outweigh the negative
Advice to Senior Management – The systems are great just make sure that all new reps follow them the first few years. More training in the securities area would help but not our priority

I have been working at Modern Woodmen
Pros – set own schedule, great income potential, a lot of motivators provided by the company, great training and assistance from co-workers and management.
Cons – Long nights, hard to get time off, and missing out on family time very frequently. Looking forward to establishing my buisness so I can enjoy myself a but more. Starting out is difficult but rewarding.

I have been working at Modern Woodmen
Pros – Great Fraternal Organization with benefits to help members prepare for financial security if they live, die, or quit working. Modern Woodmen provides both financial services and service opportunities for members.
Cons – Difficult to budget for a new agent as you learn to sell. Commissions from month to month can range between $0 to unlimited..
Advice to Senior Management – If there were anything I would do different, it would be to put more emphasis on building character of the agents and less on pushing for securities licensing. Also, promotions of family members should only be given on merit.
