I have been working at Novartis Pharmaceuticals

ProsVery flexible for employees (Work from home, flexible hours)
Good initial package
Good training & development

ConsNo check from HR on promotion/hiring, managers doing that for the people they like
Limited benefits for a performer
Lack of motivation and direction provided by senior management
Lot of work pressure

Advice to Senior ManagementLearn to retain the performers by offering them good increment.
If you decide people to work on holidays and saturdays, first make a policy of Overtime benefits/ mandatory compensatory off- can be provided as preveliged leave

Overall positive except for an obvious disconnect between the upper management and employees

Regulatory Affairs (Current Employee)

I have been working at Novartis Pharmaceuticals as a contractor for less than a year

Pros- easy to move through the company
- good company health culture
- great corporate responsibility initiatives

Cons- External HR company
- Fast to fire and outsource
- Business strategy places profits over personnel- more value in outsourcing than in quality of work
- Disconnect between the needs of employees and the leadership / upper management
- Constantly changing strategy and focus

Advice to Senior Management- Sort out the strategy. Stick with one focus
- More transparency; if a new project is to be launched, provide reasoning and justification for changes instead of simply informing associates at the last minute

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Challenging Electrical Engineering Assignments

Project Manager (Electrical Engineer) (Former Employee)
East Hanover, NJ (US)

I worked at Novartis Pharmaceuticals as a contractor for less than a year

ProsInteresting work, good pay, reasonable expectations.

ConsLack of long term commitment to employees. Contract assignment was relatively brief due to changing management plans. Lack of coordination and cooperation between former Sandoz and Ciba Geigy dominated groups.

Advice to Senior ManagementIntegrate the corporate cultures from the two former separate corporate entities. A clash of cultures and personalities between these groups hinders the most effective use of human resources and affects the bottom line.
