I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time for less than a year
Pros – Great work atmosphere, flexibility, employee discount, potential for mobility within company, variety of job tasks.
Cons – While I love the store, the pay could be increased. Pier 1 does not pay associates enough to sustain living expenses. Shifts are typically 4 hours, and the best way to pick up hours is to be available when another associate calls out. Great place to work for a second source of income.
Advice to Senior Management – Fewer Employees on payroll, increase hours for established team members.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – I started out as a Sales Associate and only 2 years later got promoted to the ASM Position. Pier 1 is not your typical retail store. If you are looking to just stand around and ring customer purchases, then this company is not for you. You have to absolutely from day one have naturally strong sales skills and know not only how to sale the product, but the store's credit card as well. As far a management, if you think your job is going to be an over paid babysitter, then you are wrong! As an ASM you will be responsible for organizing and executing monthly sale's promotions (store sales) on top of couching your associates to be effectively sellers, all the way ensure that you and your team are doing everything you can to meet the daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly sale goals.
Cons – The company is great, however the expectations for opening new credit card accounts can be a little overwhelming, especially with some what unrealistic goals.
Advice to Senior Management – Take a deeper look into the logistics and demographic of your stores and ensure your regional/ territory managers are giving equal attention to everyone. I understand why higher volume stores would receive more attention, but I feel as a manager I would want everyone on my team to be strong and not put pressure on my few top performers to carry the weight of the team.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – - Company has made great technological strides in the past few years with new registers, scheduling systems, remodels and other updates.
- Good Inventory system.
- Lots of stores around the country, so plenty of opportunity to transfer.
- Good Paid Time Off for retail, one of the best I've seen in the industry.
Cons – - A LOT of tenure in Store Manager and up. Very hard to move forward with such a backlog of potential candidates.
- Too much focus on Sales themselves, not enough on actual profitability. Hard to fault them for this as its typical of a lot of retailers.
- Workload can be intense. Company is good with trying to get SMs to work 45 hours or under, but sometimes they are not realistic with workload at all.
Advice to Senior Management – - Continue making technological improvements, become leaders with upgrades, not followers.
- Look at the workload. Sometimes its too much for the payroll provided. Stores are different, not the same, you may need to allocate payroll differently.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time for more than 3 years
Pros – As a part time associate i have gotten 6 raises in the last 3 years, starting as a seasonal associate ($10/hour) and now to Material Handler 1 ( $16/hour). Very friendly atmoshere and because of my part time status i have flexibility with my work schedule to allow time for school. Full time associates do not have this flexibility
Cons – For the past 2 years, supervisors and HR reps have been in and out of the job, making the work environment disorganized. The work is very physically demanding, often seems impossible to hit production numbers of 100% that is required. Associates get fired very often. Also a lack of equipment like forkilifts make it difficult to do work efficiently. Part time associate benifits are not the best. During peak holiday season you can kiss your life goodbye, working 11 hours plus, good for your wallet but hurts family time.
Advice to Senior Management – ive often felt under appreciated, make sure you take care of your hard working associates.

I worked at Pier 1 Imports full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – The discount and the benefits, i.e. health and vacation time. Fun product, some reasonably priced.
Cons – There is zero work life balance. Expectations and targets are high which equates to low or no bonus for the store manager. New visual merchandising guidelines to make stores more consistent means we have no creative freedom, which limits the use of some people's talents. Upper management preaches and preaches about goals and expectations, but I hardly saw my regional manager for store visits. I hadn't had an official store visit summary in over two years, until my numbers fell below "expectations." Zero positive feedback from regional.
Advice to Senior Management – Take a closer look at what your field managers are doing, coming for a store visit late and then spending the majority of time in the office is not a store visit. Give credit for a job well done. Stop having a meeting, ad set, floor move, markdown report every Sunday so a manager can actually get a Sunday off every now and again.

I worked at Pier 1 Imports part-time for less than a year
Pros – Great management, awesome employee discount, wonderful product to work with, excellent training. Overall a great place for an entry level position
Cons – The only con I can think of is that you have to work weekends, holidays, etc. But that is the nature of the beast in retail.
Advice to Senior Management – Keep up the great work!

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Nice co-workers, happy customers, flexible schedule, decent part-time pay. Online scheduling system makes it easy to request off and check time sheets. Company gives random sales incentive bonuses, holiday gifts and a five year bonus! Nice perks for a part-time job!
Cons – Stock room is always a mess and is hard to get any merchandise out.
Advice to Senior Management – Please keep the gossiping between the management, do not involve the co-workers.

I worked at Pier 1 Imports full-time
Pros – very family oriented, stress good work/life balance-pay is good and comparable to other companies,
Cons – Lean staffing means your responsibilities sometimes did not match your skill set yet expectation was to stretch your skill set to the maximum potential
Advice to Senior Management – if you're running company with a lean staff, remember the teams that are left can suffer from feeling overworked, lack of direction, and feeling that there is no room for promotion or growth within the department
