Review of Actuarial Department

Actuarial Trainee (Former Employee)
Mumbai

I worked at Prudential plc

ProsIt's a relaxed work environment and leaves you good time to focus on your other career plans - particularly continuing education. Plus the company provides good support for Actuarial education.

ConsThe career growth is rather slow and rigid.

Advice to Senior ManagementThere should be a market competitive study support for Actuarial.

4. Excellent support from the parent Prudential UK.
5. Employee reviews are dealt well.

Cons1. Pathetic performance by Indian Executive Team. I am talking about 2009-2011.
2. Pay is not very good... but they are working on it.
3. Backdated software.
4. Poor recruitment.
5. No proper training.
6. Casual environment does not really help the new people to grow professionally.

Advice to Senior Management1. Try to recruit good people at every level.

A company squarely focused on growth in Asia

Regional Executive (Former Employee)
Hong Kong (Hong Kong)

I worked at Prudential plc full-time for more than 3 years

ProsIf you are working in Asia, the crown jewel of the company, then you will find many opportunities for growth, and a chance to work in some of the most vibrant markets in the world.
Some very bright people at the top
Importance of UK and the attendant influence are diminishing

ConsVery strong orientation to Agency; over-weighted to this distribution platform.
Extensive, prolonged, and test-centric evaluation during hiring process.
Long hours are the norm

Advice to Senior ManagementRegional executive management is highly capable and adept at delivering outstanding business performance.

Young sales people create an undercurrent of pressure to sell at all cost

Financial Consultant (Former Employee)
Singapore (Singapore)

I worked at Prudential plc full-time for more than a year

ProsI'll say it first. If you are have to choose a career in insurance... it's objectively one of the best choices, this coming from someone who greatly dislikes the industry. That said, their products are costly, meaning often you find yourself selling a suboptimal package from a purely cost perspective
Learn very quickly
Builds confidence in people to high pressure
Training and pressure allows you to build strong bonds which may be the main thing that stops people in the industry from leaving

ConsThe job does not discriminate between working and off-work hours
A sense that you are exploiting your friends
A strong draw to push aside your morals

Advice to Senior ManagementChecks and balances + KPIs directly on the quality of sales culture being developed
