Current Employee – been working at Regions Financial full-time for more than 3 years

ProsTraining classes: within and outside the bank. Free checking account setup with no min. deposit amount.

ConsThere is no job recognition for the associates at the bottom of the food chain. Seems that recognition comes at the AVP level or higher.

Advice to Senior ManagementPromote associates that are competent to do the job at the next level, not by seniority. For senior/executive management I would suggest doing an audit on associate productivity in the operations department in the Birmingham area. There is no job accountability held within a certain system that is used by all bank locations and back office workers. Without having this accountability workers are allowed to hide in secrecy of not doing their fair share of departmental work, while it is pasted off to other associates on the team.

Birmingham, AL (US)

Current Employee – been working at Regions Financial full-time for more than 10 years

ProsThe company has great values and does truly put the customer first. Although the management talent and overall morale for each dept varies greatly, Regions as a whole has a lot of talented managers and makes great efforts to instill the Regions Values amongst it's employees.

ConsRegions doesn't compare to industry standards in the compensation category. Benefits are a lot less than compared to pre Regions/Amsouth merger.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay your people what they deserve. You get what you pay for and the general consensus between Regions employees is that you must leave the bank, go to work for BBVA Compass or another top competitor and then come back in order to get a pay increase.

Chattanooga, TN (US)

Former Employee – worked at Regions Financial part-time for more than a year

ProsRegions offered good benefits and decent pay.

ConsStressful environment, as a new employee and learning the ropes, co-workers were more determined to tear you apart than be helpful. Watched many higher ups leave because of environment.

Advice to Senior ManagementMaking threats at weekly meetings to get the sales is no way to encourage results.

Memphis, TN (US)

Former Employee – worked at Regions Financial full-time for more than a year

ProsThe training is top notch and very helpful. My fellow coworkers at the branch level were superb as well. One of the best teams I have every worked on. We all genuninely cared for one another and picked up each others slack with no questions asked. My manager genuinely wanted me to be as succesful as possible and helped me to try and achieve my goals.

ConsUpper management is disconnected from its workers at the branch level. All they care about is sales goals and customer service scores. Customer service scores are very skewed. You only get 10 surveys per branch a month that are weighted heavily. They are done by Gallup and consist of 5 or 6 questions based on a scale of 1(lowest) to 5(highest). If you get a 5 then it is comparable to getting a 100. If you get a 1-4 it is essentially a 0. Your branch's attitude and demeanor essentially is based off of your customer svc score. If you got a good score Upper mgmt says good job and you don't really hear from them for a month. If you received a poor score anything below an 80 essentially upper mgmt has your manager and possibly you on conference calls the entire month. Our regional manager "motivated" employees by constantly telling them how easily replaceable they were. I interviewed for a promotion ( sales oriented) after a year and a half and was told I did not have enough sales experience so was denied. I promptly interviewed at a main competitor and was offered a position. After being offered this position at a competitor upper management wanted me to interview with them again. I declined. And believe me.....this is only the tip of the iceberg.

Advice to Senior ManagementPromote from within your company more often. Your training is top of the line at the branch level. Stop wasting time focusing too much time on the difference between a 5 and 4 in customer service. A 4 isn't the best but it is far from being awful. Treat your employees with respect and be grateful they are there. And stop wasting so much time on conference calls and morning meetings that accomplish nothing. 2 a week are sufficient.

Pensacola, FL (US)

Former Employee – worked at Regions Financial full-time for less than a year

ProsPay is good
Comm is nice as well
Lots of chances to win prizes and money

ConsYea the hours aren't bad considering when they close and the days they aren't open but when you leave this job it goes with you. Some projects you have to do off of the clock in order to complete and once you are off the clock you can forget the stress. They love giving you extra responsibilities with no realistic time to complete tasks and your requirements under your job title. The management are a bit difficult to come to. I left because of my team leader being disrespectful and the balance with my school work was not working. They tell you to "meet the need" of the customer but contradict that statement by making you reach hourly sales goals.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop contradicting yourselves. Be more about the customer and consider the hard environment of your employees and the stress levels placed on them. It's difficult to give excellent customer service and meet the need of the customer when you are constantly pressing credit card sales and new account sales.
