I have been working at Rent-A-Center full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Very few people do RTO well so if you are good you should have job security. If you have an RD that undermines you than good luck.

    Cons

you don't make enough at any position to be a top performer. Long hours, never having 2 days off in row unless its a holiday, high expectations and the team that you usually get to work with are poor at best because top talent doesn't work in RTO

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Check yourself. DM's, RD's, and DVP's lack in leadership skills and choose to run things with a lack of professionalism and usually do there own thing. If you don't kiss their but you don't make it. All of underperforming suck ups that I have seen stay employed. Talent usually leaves because, in part, the leadership sucks.

I have been working at Rent-A-Center full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits. Competitive salary. Experience in all fields of retail. Promotes from within. Good company overall.

    Cons

Long hours, horrible bosses (not all of them) stressful enviroment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more aware of employees happiness levels. Some of your management teams harass and even persecute employees. No one want to work for tyrants.

I have been working at Rent-A-Center full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Bonus is pretty good and they offer a 401K

    Cons

No work life balance. Store Managers barely get to take their scheduled days off and if you do take your day off the District Manager will call you back in even if you are on paid leave (vacation) lots of false promises and no recognition programs in place. Very hard to move up past store manager and high turn around due to long hours and high sale goals.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There needs to be better recognition programs in place. Upper management needs to start being proactive instead of reactive that would help the constant turn around at the store levels. Too much is expected from store team members with little support from district managers they need to start listening better to their store managers they are the face of the company and should be treated with better respect.

    I worked at Rent-A-Center

    Pros

Only pro for this job is the overtime

    Cons

Long hours, only an hour lunch and no breaks. No time for family this is not the job for you if you are an individual with family. Low pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to emphasize on keeping employees happy and that every person pitches in 90% of your female staff are hired as assistant managers while men start as Account reps

    I worked at Rent-A-Center full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Met some great people who worked for the company the same time I did. Every Sunday off. Health benefits weren't bad, purchase program for employees, and discounts with other companies. Some managers did their best to recognize accomplishments.

    Cons

Deal with the dregs of society. Very hard job on your psyche. Upper management has no feelings and their is no respect for home life or any outside activities (like school...I've seen someone fired for pursuing their education). Like a lot of retail establishments, it's a "hit your numbers or else" type of business. Days off are split (Sunday and some day during the week).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your employees like people not, numbers. Respect the fact that they have families and other obligations (church, school, etc.).

    ON SUSPENSION DUE TO RETALIATION

Current Employee - Sales Manager in San Diego, CA (US)
Current Employee - Sales Manager in San Diego, CA (US)

I have been working at Rent-A-Center

    Pros

Good over time pay.Getting lower prices for items paying same as cash. Employee deductions for items bought after 6 months of employment.

    Cons

I was in charge of making 4 sales a day, make bank deposits, doing cash audit, receiving inventory call the SLT list everyday. Brochures 600 flyers a week going door to door.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You should not suspend employees due to retaliation. I was suspended of my job after I informed the District Manager about unethical practices in the office. You should train your employees. I was suspended before I got a paid holiday on Thanksgiving.
