Store is great, but upper management is just too much stress.

I have been working at Rent-A-Center full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

It's an interesting job, lots of different activities, pay, benefits, get some exercise, get to interact with a lot of different people. Closed on Sunday, so at least you'll get 1 day off.

    Cons

Constantly missing everything if you have kids. Saturday, every Saturday sucks. Pay isn't high by any means. Deal with some very dirty people sometimes, and are cleaning up after them. Upper management is all about laying as much stress on the stores as possible.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lets not try to stress out coworkers to the point they want to quit, or jump off the roof. The hour cut was nice, but the pay increase needed to be higher, everyone realized all they got was a pay cut. You have a LOT of very good employees, but you're looking at them like ants under a magnifying glass, and you're scorching them with it. It's so hard to hire good help with the pay, considering a certain golden arches starts out at the same pay.

    I worked at Rent-A-Center full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

You'll make some decent money because of all the hours you'll put in... while putting your family and life on hold.

    Cons

Management likes to hold phone conference meetings 2 to 3 times a day ,sometimes almost threatening to fire you or like they like to say to everybody while on conference : "if you don't like it here get another job", this is constantly happening.. that's how they like to motivate people.. they send you sometimes to do 2 men job on you own, love to deceive customers. 0 life balance. No matter how hard you work you are always overlooked.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognize those that there are employees that really care about customers and work very hard to get things done and recognized but you guys always have either family working within that get promoted without even knowing the English language to communicate, ignoring performance. CEO should look into the Queens N.Y. District and make serious changes.

    Previous manager

    I worked at Rent-A-Center full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Learn to manage all aspects of business operations from collections, sales, inventory control, accounts payable and receivable, diversity on products knowledge, company has good quarterly bonus if you meet high expectations.

    Cons

No work life balance (salary staff can easily work 70 hours, and they expect you to work on your days off) managers are slave to the store hours, lack of support of district managers, it is a sales driven company and you are severely punish if you don't meet standard, work load it's not enough for all personnel and create shortages even with employees working 45-47 hours a week. District manager will tell you to hold returns to look good on the books right at the end of the month, lack of support from higher managers. Pay its competitive but not enough for the amount of work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more employees full time or part-time basis to alleviate heavy work load, have better training and communication. Ethics in employee relations and decisions.

    I worked at Rent-A-Center full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great pay, benefits, and advancement opportunity if you're willing to work into a management level job, other workers were underpaid however. Learned a great deal while here that has helped me in a variety of different roles.

    Cons

Long hours, no weekends off unless you take vacation time. Upper management was very disconnected from the store level. Very hard to hire new employees due to pay rate being significantly below that of other local employers, rather than work on a plan to fix this issue, additional pressure was put on store management to fill gaps.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a page out of your competitors business model, compartmentalize duties. Hire delivery staff, collections staff, sales staff and cut down to a normal work week. Do better research prior to entering new markets, you had a gold mine sitting there for the taking in Minot ND but entered two much less lucrative markets rather than putting a location there.

    Pros

It was nice knowing I'd always get overtime. Very relaxed setting as long as your route was properly managed.

    Cons

Mandatory Saturday shifts as it's the busiest day. Promotions only come from the store manager, if you don't have a good relationship (or if someone else has a better one) you'll be passed over. If you have an already had route when you start it's tough to get it good again.
