Former Employee – worked at Reynolds American
Pros – The pay is above average for similar jobs elsewhere and if you make it to a management position the bonuses are awesome.
Cons – Everybody knows that working for a tobacco company in a declining industry is not the best, but hey, they pay pretty well. Senior management is more involved in politics than anything else. Most often than not they reward the wrong behavior (politics vs. performance). They just got rid of 40% of the salaried employees in Winston Salem. Sure enough they kept some of the worst managers I've ever seen in my 15 years of professional experience.
Advice to Senior Management – Get down to work. Make the tough desicions and look at your consumers and your brands.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

Pros – Money is great. Benefits are great. They give you a lot of hope to a bright career. They are very innovative, but oddly everything flops. Bonuses can be great and the vacation time is adequate. They prepare you to take on the world and their information is top notch.
Cons – The hope ends quickly. Management is weak at best. They are constantly changing and most cases its to the betterment of those in the office. This is a market that has been declining for the last 10 years at a rate of 3%, due the math many will not retire here. Number two company with a large gap between number one.
Advice to Senior Management – You have the best sales group out there, quit telling them that and show them.
