Former Employee – worked at Ryder System full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – Large company with opportunities to transfer to other facilities. Good place to learn the business but be prepared to do much of the learning on your own.
Cons – Large company that doesn't know who's working for them. Surprised by the extent of the micro-managing that happens. HR department is used as a weapon.
Advice to Senior Management – Learn about the companies you invest in. You can't run everything like a trucking company.

Former Employee – worked at Ryder System full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – The office was close to my house and when I started we were able to work from home while on call and once a week.
Cons – My manager was verbally abusive on several occasions. It took four years for my salary to reach the level I was promised prior to starting on a contract to hire basis. The benefits brocure I was sent prior to hiring was out of date. The pension plan in that brocure had been discontinued.

Current Employee – been working at Ryder System full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – - Decent starting salary
-Cell phone expensed monthly
-401k and stock discount/contributions
Cons – *(May vary by account and location)
-Teamwork does not exist. Culture fosters backstabbing and only trying to set others up for failure
-Going above and beyond expectations only gets you held to a higher standard and added responsibility
-False promises of positions offered only to be swept from under you and given to others
-If not in the limelight to brown nose the bosses, you will be managed out.
-Work/Life balance does not exist. No matter what, you must stay as many hours as necessary to ensure a completed job
-Opportunity for growth is VERY limited if you are not willing to relocate to a different city or state
-Salary does not match workload/responsibility
-Can not go to HR or higher ups in hopes of addressing concerns without fear of later being punished/managed out
Advice to Senior Management – -Appreciate and recognize those that work the longer hours and push harder to ensure the jobs get done effectively
-Possibly give more incentives for the 2nd and 3rd shift employees
-Provide employees with the right tools to do the job and they will get it done effectively!

Former Employee – worked at Ryder System full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Severance Pay
Non-discrimination policy included sexual orientation and gender expression
Matching 401K
Decent wage for hourly
Good HR and company structure
Learned a lot
Clean work environment
I'm really having a difficult time coming up with a lot of positive things to say, but it did have an ethics and a HR line to call concerning problems.
Cons – There was a lot of favoritism and discrimination against older workers and heavier people. You could work for years at this company and all of a sudden--laid off. They really love taking advantage of young people, fresh out of college, working salaried employees an obscene amount of hours then they eventually lay you off, give your job to a younger person or someone you trained overseas or in a different department. The environment is pretty hostile, a lot of back-biting, and there were mass layoffs on a regular basis along with individual layoffs peppered along the way.
Advice to Senior Management – Bring back jobs to the United States, retain experienced employees who know what they're doing and do a great job at it, stop sacrificing quality for lower wages.

Former Employee – worked at Ryder System
Pros – Great starting salary, they pay for a small portion of your Masters, you will travel both domestically and internationally. Upper management are great and truly care for their employees. CEO/CFO will actually talk to you in the elevator, so prepare the elevator speech!
Cons – Travel may be seen as a con if you do not like to be away from home. In general, younger professionals enjoy it while older ones see it as a bit of a chore.
