I have been working at Sam's Club

    Pros

Flexible Hours, they cater to what you want and need. I go to school full time, and I still get my hours because they work around my schedule.

    Cons

The way some people get full time is corrupt. Instead of picking the best worker, they have to give full time to the associate that doesn't cut their hours when told, and bullies their way into it.

    Manager in Training

    I worked at Sam's Club

    Pros

The management team that I worked with were great. They took the time to teach me things that I would need to know as a manager. The other employees were great too. Good environment. The pay for an internship was great and I was put in a hotel paid by the company during the entire 10 weeks.

    Cons

On your feet on hard concrete all day. Very tiring for never having done a 40 a week job before.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I don't have any complaints. It's a great company and I was offered a job at the end of the internship. I declined for several reasons: the retail environment is too chaotic for me and while the salary they offered to an almost college graduate was hard to pass up, the 55-60 hour work week that would accompany it was not.

I have been working at Sam's Club

    Pros

Friendly environment, decent starting pay for new hires. Generally flexible with shifts and time off.

    Cons

Small pay increase each year. Terrible management. Throw you in any department during any shift with no compensation or gratitude. After years of employment, direct competitors have better salary.

I worked at Sam's Club full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

If you are willing to relocate several times over the first few years, you could have a lot of upward mobility. They keep data on everything, but usually it's underutilized on the store level. This can be a serious advantage if you take the time to analyze some of the data and strategize, It makes your achievements easy to measure. Salaried positions are payed pretty well.

    Cons

Salaried positions usually put in a lot more than their scheduled hours, making work life balance poor. The mentality of the company leads to lower wages on the hourly scale, and the strictness on budget means you may have a decent work life balance, but benefits and lifestyle will likely suffer. In a company that size, and still under the Walmart umbrella, expect a lot of red tape. I saw a considerable amount of favoritism. Benefits aren't great, and in a low cost environment, it could be hard to work enough hours to get them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Company policy and management's Ideas don't always line up. SOPs exist for a reason, if they are thrown out a window every time management thinks differently, why have them? This disconnect creates problems with standardization, confuses and upsets employees, and ruins/ignores data. If you are constantly pointing employees to company policy to answer questions, but simultaneously telling them to ignore certain policies, that's a major disconnect, fix it. Treat everyone equal, If you have a good employee, why not work with them? Pay the hourly employees more, so you can command a higher achieving employee in general. Think about human capital as an investment instead of a sunk cost.
