Opportunity Galore

Assistant Manager (Current Employee)

I have been working at Sam's Club full-time for more than 3 years

ProsPlenty of opportunity for leadership development. Great people to work with. Great benefits the longer you have been there.

ConsWork life balance for managers can be challenging in high volume stores. Life on a retail schedule can have significant impact on families.

Interesting

Cashier (Current Employee)
West Allis, WI (US)

I have been working at Sam's Club full-time for more than a year

ProsGood experience if you want to work in customer service. Most of the coworkers were nice, some general problems with customers but nothing major. Very competitive, if that is was some are looking for.

ConsPeople are only appreciated if they make alot of sells, not if they are otherwise outstanding employees. The most important thing to them is not customer service, but making money, and selling memberships, even if you have to lie to do so. Almost like a used car lot.

Advice to Senior Managementconcentrate more on making ALL associates feel needed and useful, not just the ones who sell the plus. don't reward the associates who have to lie to sell, either.

Extremely Busy and terrible schedules

Bakery Team Lead (Current Employee)
Sacramento, CA (US)

I have been working at Sam's Club part-time for more than 7 years

ProsCan get your shopping done on the way home before leaving your job.

ConsConstant schedule changes, vacation days never get approved so you cannot book any planes, hotels, cruises or even a single day's concert event.

Advice to Senior ManagementTRY to make life easier for your employees so they can have a life.

They do not value employees

Cafe Associate (Current Employee)
Farmington Hills, MI (US)

I have been working at Sam's Club part-time for more than a year

ProsYou can wear whatever you want, they're closed for major holidays and close at eight thirty every night. There's lots of opportunity for changing job positions within the company.

ConsThere is a lack of training in the management end due to a high turn-over rate. There are severe communication issues between associates and management.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake the associates' needs into consideration. Sometimes cutting associate hours really hurts both the associates and sales.
