Great organization

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Save the Children full-time for more than 3 years

ProsWonderful people, amazing opportunities, compelling mission.

I really enjoyed working at Save the Children, and feel that we were truly contributing in positive ways.

ConsSome positions have unknown funding futures and employees outside the fundraising team can't do much to seek continued funds / more job security.

Advice to Senior ManagementWork hard to decrease bureaucratic barriers and layers.

Specialist (Current Employee)

I have been working at Save the Children full-time for more than a year

ProsStaff and management have very high standards for our work, in a way that's very inspiring. The work environment is flexible and supportive, with many allowances for working remotely.

ConsMany people like the office location (Southern CT), but it's a con for me because I find it boring, expensive, and difficult to get to.

Focus on fundraising, not focused on people, including people with families.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Save the Children full-time for more than 3 years

ProsExternally has a good brand and partners view Save the Children positively. There has been high turnover at the Washington/Westport level for the last 5+ years. Only some senior level people remain.

ConsQuestionable practices swept under the rug/avoided despite so-called internal audit efforts; also one highly corrupt staff from the field was promoted to home office position, despite warnings from colleagues.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus on accountability, accountability, accountability, in conjunction the implementation of good programs for children, not just fundraising to help maintain bloated salaries at senior level.

Some Great People But Little Upward Mobility

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Westport, CT (US)

I worked at Save the Children full-time for more than 5 years

ProsMade some great friends, had some interesting travel opportunities. They felt like my family for the many years I worked there.

ConsUpper management--lots of changes. Getting used to the pace and vibe of new bosses all the time is tiring, and also affects one's ability to move up. Layoffs and restructuring seems to happen every few years.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus more on the talent you already have.
