    Pros

Flexible hours for students. Managers are usually down to earth. Pay you on time and wage increases.

    Cons

Avoid front end department ex, Cashier/Courtesy and you'll have more freedom and a better shift overall.

I have been working at Sobeys part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I had pretty reasonable managers in general, and the manager of my department was great. The job was easy but kind of rewarding in a way; when the department looked good and you knew you contributed to that it was pretty cool. I had some good co-workers, made a new close friend. It is hard to get fired. Flexible scheduling, my boss always followed my availability.

    Cons

I did get raises every 500 or 1000 hours or something like that, but when minimum wage went up I lost them...and still haven't gotten them back (even though I was clearly their best part-timer). I deserved to earn more than most of the lazy people I worked with, Sobeys will hire anyone for a part-time position; ANYONE. Which you might say makes sense since it is just part-time but in all other things they seem to hold themselves to standards, not with employees. Someone here said you get too few breaks; that is a lie, at least at my store, maybe they are all different. I had TOO MANY breaks, I didn't take half of them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire better people, reward your good employees.

I have been working at Sobeys part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

A very well paying part time job if you're okay with the physical labour as it can get tough. Ability to pick how much you work - 7 hour shifts, 2 (min) - 4 (max) shifts per week ,afternoons or nights, must work 2 days of Fri-Mon; you won't get bombarded with hours if you don't want them. Part-timers must work all stat holidays but trust me you will want to at 2.5x your regular wage.

    Cons

Starting out for the first couple months is horrible as you start on the bottom of the seniority list, meaning you're in the freezer. You get payed $1 extra and some guys prefer to work in there but I personally hate it. If you can stick it out for a few months it gets better.

I have been working at Sobeys part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    - Young, fun coworkers
    - Understandable and reasonable rules and regulations
    - given feedback on how to improve in your position
    - able to put your own spin on how you provide customer service

    Cons

    - disrespect from management
    - little flexibility in hours and time-off
    - favouritism (bosses befriend some of their staff and then treat them better than others)
    - very little chance of pay being raised
    - no personal connections being made by management
    - rarely a clean place to work
    - management lacks the ability to understand their staff's needs
    - hardly any chance to move up in ranks within the store/department

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Compensate for your worker's needs, especially for students. Students are so often treated poorly in regards to respect to their hours and need for time off. Students, whether they are in high school or post-secondary, are in need of a balance between work and school, this is too often neglected within the Sobeys workplace. A better attempt at understanding your workers needs is necessary and needs to be taken care of ASAP.
