I have been working at Sogeti full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Sogeti has smart and talented consultants who really want to satisfy clients' needs. There's decent benefits including a large 401k match and a lenient policy on tuition/training reimbursement. They've had steady growth for a while and hopefully as their brand name becomes more recognizable, they will attract more prominent clients.

    Cons

Large units like in Ohio probably have great structure and communication, but for years my smaller unit has struggled with this. Organization is lacking and there aren't as many client project opportunities as you'd expect. They will try to shoehorn you into a project if you're on the bench too long, and that's really frustrating.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fix your communication structure in smaller units.

I worked at Sogeti full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    - Growth and learning are encouraged and often provided.
    - Mentoring is fostered by company sponsored program.
    - Local approach to providing solutions with the backing of a global corporation.
    - Good benefits and competitive salary.

    Cons

    - Perhaps easy to get "stuck" in a client-role.
    - Though it's nice to have pep-rallies, they sometimes went beyond what was believable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Stop pushing off-shore so hard.

NOT True Consulting - Pure Staff Augmentation

I worked at Sogeti full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Work-life balance is well maintained since the work is not challenging as it is with a real consulting firm.

401K match is great, but you are only vested after 3 years. If you can make it here for 3+ years, kudos to you.

Working independently with the client allows you to make connections with companies much better than Sogeti.

    Cons

Sogeti is definitely not the place for anyone in IT, let alone anyone looking to do true consulting. "Consultants" are treated solely as resources to sell to clients and not as solution deliverers (staff augmentation). Sales, sales, sales is the only focus you will hear over and over again, starting at the very top. Bonuses are based purely on business development aka sales and profit contribution aka your billing rate.

Sogeti will pad their bids with work that no one at the company can actually do just to win it (because the company is driven by profit margin). Once contracts are won, they immediately seek out people who can do the job for cheap and then do a poor job of delivering to the client, which is very transparent.

Due to the company's poor strategy of just winning any and all contracts, and not truly focusing on delivering quality solutions, the type of work you will be given at any moment is very unstable and quite unsatisfying. As long as you remain billable, no one at the company cares what you are doing, even if it's reading Yahoo News articles all day.

With that, there is also an extreme lack of career development and mentoring for those who want to move up in their careers and are not okay with being complacent. Senior leadership does not care about developing leaders, retaining talent, and growing people's careers. Being promoted to manager does not mean you will get to manage teams and projects. There is NO logical correlation between your title, your skills, and the type of work you do. Consultants, whether fresh-out-of-college or managers, are merely treated like monopoly pieces in a game of profit.

The attrition rate is extremely high due to all the aforementioned flaws with the company. Some people have left no more than 2-6 months in after quickly realizing how detrimental being at Sogeti long-term would be to one's career and returning to their former companies. However, the attrition rate is not just from people leaving, but also Sogeti's willingness to easily terminate people if they cannot place them right away.

Overall, don't waste your time and look elsewhere. Getting a job at Sogeti is easy for a reason.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the CEO and the rest of upper management. Look at the top consulting firms and learn a few things from them and then re-brand the entire company.

I have been working at Sogeti

    Pros

Benefit package pays premiums; good bonus program; lots of locations to transfer to.
Very diverse fields of work, primarily contract staff augmentation, much of it for the State of Florida.
I saw very little effort at personal growth, most efforts was toward increasing bonus amounts via social and charity involvement - little input from actual work effort of accomplishments.

    Cons

Highly "encouraged" involvement in charitable and social events, aimed at increasing bonus amounts. Margins were slim, resulting in several years with pay increases - not even COL amounts. While the position was represented as relatively short (6 month) contracts - in, do the job, turn over, and leave; in reality one contract lasted over a year and a half.

I have been working at Sogeti full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    - The level of expertise of my fellow consultants
    - Opportunity to work on a wide range of technologies in an even wider range of clients
    - Reimbursement for certification tests

    Cons

    - Inadequate transparency with regards to what clients I will be placed at and when.
    - Completely broken bonus system that benefits only Managing Consultants and above.
    - Insufficient salary for what is expected of a entry consultant.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Delete the bonus system, and increase the base salary of all A level consultants to fair market value using some of the profits you brag about at all the all hands calls.

I have been working at Sogeti full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I really enjoy working in Tampa. I would not like to work anywhere else. Management is very approachable. Work-life balance is great. They are very flexible regarding when work is done. The benefits are the best I have seen.

    Cons

There has not been enough autonomy for unit management to control all aspects of their business. Senior management in the company has to approve too many decisions that should be made locally.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

College graduate salaries should be higher. Allow the unit management to run their unit as they see fit and measure them on their effectiveness.

I have been working at Sogeti full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    > Decent entry level compensation... after you consider the certificate and continued education reimbursements.
    > Very nice and fun coworkers.
    > Laid back and fun environment.
    > Higher ups treat you with respect and as an equal.
    > Encourage self-betterment. Want you to do things to improve your skill set (and to increase your bill rate).
    > Hardly compensated for working in excess of 40hr/week.

    Cons

    > Healthcare deductible is absolutely terrible for a single employee ($4450, then company covers 90%).
    > More interested in filling positions at clients than finding the right fit; another reviewer uses the analogy "square peg in a round hole." I joined Sogeti hoping to do primarily OOP (Java or C# primarily - as advertised). I've done almost everything besides that at my first and only client. VB.NET, SSIS, MAINFRAME (COBOL, JCL, DB2), and way too much system testing. I'm not talking about the kind of testing that is expected from developers. I'm talking QA, almost UAT, type testing.
    > Extremely subjective bonus system.
