    Great company with few negatives

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Hartsville, SC (US)

ProsSonoco offers many positives which include opportunities for advancement, access to senior management, and good pay for the area. If you are a strong performer and have decent soft skills you will be recognized and rewarded. Training and development programs are very good, and corporate employees have access to many opportunities for personal development.

ConsBenefits are not great, with big cuts to many of the perks (e.g. 401K match & tuition reimbursement) in recent years. Health insurance deductibles and out of pocket max are very high compared to others in the industry.

Part of a major acquisition by Sonoco and integration into Sonoco Culture was challenging

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsGreat Benefits - medical, dental, vision, 401(k), pension, FSA and Health Incentive Account.
Very concerned about all aspects of employee and plant operations safety.

ConsWork was not challenging - Did not allow employees to make any decisions.
All directives came from Hartsville, SC. Very fond of using 3rd Party Vendors for everything and were not interested in hearing anything negative about these vendors.

Advice to Senior ManagementAsk your employees for their suggestions and listen to their answers and insights.

Great experience for me. Have to be willing to go, do, learn, risk.

    Manager (Former Employee)

ProsIn operations, you have great opportunities to learn multiple facets of management and technology. Wear many hats. Have to focus, prioritize. Learn to juggle.

ConsSame as the pros if the challenge is not to your liking.

Advice to Senior ManagementNot enough appreciation for the field. Co is at risk of freezing up decision making at the lowest level because of too constant micro managing.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
