Motivating and exciting was a great place to work for.

Senior Accounts Payable Specialist (Former Employee) Hauppauge, NY (US)

ProsThe people were like family. Looked forward working everyday.

ConsCommunication was a big problem. Even though I was promoted, there really wasn't any room for growth. The company was sold to Microchip Technology which, I was included in a lay-off which consisted of 95% of the company.

Ok place to work, but nothing special

    Engineer (Former Employee)

ProsSMSC had a good and diverse portfolio of products. When one product line was down, others were usually doing well and able to make up the difference. SMSC bought a few good and unique technologies but could never quite take advantage. Best thing about SMSC? It beats what came after it.

ConsSMSC never acquired enough critical mass to get to the next corporate level. Over the last few years, it became obvious that upper management was more interested in making the company look good on paper rather than actually growing the business. When they finally found a buyer not sophisticated enough to tell the difference, upper management sold out the rest of us and made off with a small fortune.

Advice to Senior ManagementToo late now, but you need to stop overfilling the ranks of upper management with your buddies from previous jobs.
