I have been working at Synopsys full-time

    Pros

Promotions and personal growth good if you are talented. You get to work on higher level tasks irrespective of experience and gain skills exponentially. Visibility is very important and deciding factor for promotions.

    Cons

Little to none overseas travel/transfer opportunities.
Benefits of performing well seem mostly to lead to more work and responsibility rather than matching economic benefits.
Advancement much dependent upon your visibility in the Business Group and success/demand of the product that you work on rather than your skills.
Management always seems to wake up only when the competition is way ahead and then nagging at R&D to rush things leading to even harder maintenance in future.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Benefits don't seem to be performance oriented unlike what is usually claimed. Focus should shift to awarding the right people aptly.
Also more people != more productivity.
Right person + right place == better and faster work.
Initial planning stages of a project could be improved instead of hastened.

I have been working at Synopsys

    Pros

There is no undue pressure put on by the management, and work done is duly appreciated. Co-workers are really bright and there is something new to learn almost everyday. Top management is really solid and it is a stable company.

    Cons

Growth is slower compared to other companies. It is slowly expanding its domain through acquisitions, but comparatively slow growing.

    Positive Outlook

I worked at Synopsys as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Great working environment. Very flexible work hours. Good opportunity to learn design from great engineers. Unlimited access to state of the art CAD tools while designing.

    Cons

Division of work among employees is not the best. It almost seems as if there is no planning done before work begins. Some employees have very heavy work loads while others have 3-4 hour workdays sometimes.

    - You always keep learning every day (if you are open to learning)

    Cons

    - Mid-level managers are clueless on business. Just want to please their superiors
    - Not much differences in compensation between a high performer and a laggard

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at Synopsys full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Very few as I can remember of. But still , they are -

    1. The company is pretty stable, almost zero chances of lay off's.
    2. Many people takes leaves for long time, but I never got chance of taking too leaves for too long.

    Cons

    1. Horrible work life balance if you are working in India. They expect you to work on weekends and also late nights just to ensure a bug is fixed.
    2. The code base is pathetic, people are just interested in getting quick fixes instead of good quality code.
    3. People here just blame you if you could not deliver a project on time, and senior guys dont even care of planning.
    4. They expect you to take ownership just from the 2nd month you join and they dont even care if you are prepared to take or not.
    5. Some managers track you like anything and could call you to get a thing done even when you are in leave or in weekends.
    6. The technology which are they are working on is so outdated and is nothing relevant to the present day.
    7. Compensation is very less compared to others in the industry for freshers, you can only get increment when you resign!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Most of the middle level managers just try to flatter the directors in order to get promoted. The HR dont even care making the work place better! So please wake up, else you wont get any fresher to join here!

I have been working at Synopsys full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    Working hours are flexible
    Work from home option
Pay is good at the time of joining, but eventually gets stagnant as yearly hikes aren't too impressive

    Cons

Most of the VIPs are auto architected, so scope of gaining methodology knowledge is limited
Negotiating salary hikes is almost impossible.
Career opportunities are not that great
No festivals are ever celebrated at work place
