I can't wait to quit this job

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Kansas City, MO (US)

I have been working at TJ Maxx part-time for more than 3 years

ProsNot many pros about this company. Weekly paycheck. (If it even comes) Ok short term employment for students or a second job. Managers make good money and bonuses.

ConsLow pay and laughable yearly raises. You have to sell the credit card or else. Even if you meet the goals for credit applications and your store is #1 in the region, its is still not good enough. Store is understaffed and you are expected to do everything while keeping customer service high. Rules and protocols change constantly and there is no communication when they do, then you are reprimanded for not knowing. Different managers will say and do things that contradict each other. No one is ever on the same page. Weekly paychecks are supposed to be available on Fridays, but in the last few months, they are not. If you ask why, the answer is, "you need to get direct deposit." So you better have a bank account if you want your money on time. No benefits until after 1 year. If you are sick it is your responsibility to find someone to cover your shift. If you are sick and try to call in, you get the third degree. Your availability doesn't matter as they will schedule you anyway and then write you up for tardies.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet on the same page. Reward for good work and give better raises. Stop belittling associates. They are the reason for YOUR bonus.

Minimum wage, minimum respect

Retail Associate (Former Employee)
Ramsey, NJ (US)

I worked at TJ Maxx part-time for less than a year

ProsRetail Experience, Probably not hard to advance if you're dedicated. The hours were not bad and the behind the scenes work is very easy.

ConsMinimum wage, poor training, opressive policies, department managers use hourly workers as tools and pawns to get each other fired. Customers will constantly try to cheat the system

Advice to Senior ManagementRevise your training programs for retail associates

great company to work for part time.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at TJ Maxx part-time

ProsIts an easy job and they work well around schedules. Tjmaxx trys to show their employees they are appreciated by monthly prizes. Ive had a great experience with super friendly management and have seen employees move up. You do get a discount and there is a lot of awesome merchandise. But the best part is they accept people for who they are, tattoos, piercings, colored hair, race, sexual preference.

ConsThey expect above average retail work for minimum wage, and the raises are very minimum. It will take a long time to move up in the company if they really like you and there is a small employee discount. They expect excellent work and PUSH for you to get credit cards, but with no reward.

Advice to Senior Managementgive cashiers rewards for getting credit cards that you promote soo strongly!
