Mixed bag

Product Manager (Current Employee)
Luton, East of England, England (UK)

I have been working at TUI Travel full-time for more than 3 years

ProsGreat people, fun environment, outstanding travel benefits. Pay pretty good for travel industry and the brand is prestigious in the industry.

ConsLack of progression opportunities, particularly in between departments. Luton location rather sterile but they do their best to keep staff entertained despite being away from bright lights of London.

Advice to Senior ManagementInvest in people with dedicated training programmes and don't be short sighted and assume people want to stay in the same department for all their career

Specialist Holidays Group, part of TUI Travel - Great career development opportunity but soul destroying in many ways.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
London, England (UK)

I have been working at TUI Travel full-time for more than 3 years

ProsHave been able to advance quickly in the company mainly due to constant mergers, restructures and 'synergy /streamlining'.

ConsA boys club. And you have to be darn good to get anywhere with out being invited into the club.

Advice to Senior ManagementTry keeping the great, experienced and driven people that make a difference and drive the company forward as opposed to the people that can talk the talk but do nothing of value.

Good company overall but making some bad moves for staff

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at TUI Travel full-time for more than 8 years

ProsGreat opportunities, good management overall, take advantage of all opportunities to improve the company. Good human resources department and progression plans.

ConsDifficult to get a good work life balance due to the demands of the company and they do not seem to have the employees near the top of their priorities

The World of TUI is a great place to work and to get recognized for individual contributions.

ProgramDirector (Former Employee)
Crawley, Hampshire, South East England, England (UK)

I worked at TUI Travel as a contractor for more than 3 years

Pros- Entrepreneurial organization with decentralized leadership;
- Senior management is professional, passionate, goal- and team oriented;
- Casual and informal work environment;
- TUI's strategy proves to hold up well whereas its competitors are struggling during the current economic crises.

ConsThere are no cons that I can think of, although I can imagine that not all TUI countries / 250 brands are created equal. I can say the having worked for TUI Group at the HQ in the UK was a great experience.

Overall very good experience

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at TUI Travel

ProsCan live in different places under the sun! After company's long experience there's a wide knowledge how things are working in those kind of tourist places where the system in general doesn't work always so fluently.
f.ex. good living conditions, might be a shared car, always some backup.

ConsIn some resorts and season there should be way more reasonable working times, still the same salary. Sometimes too business-minded. A big variety of bosses in the resorts. That type of work isn't under normal working rules.

Overworked, underpaid and thoroughly undervalued.

Overseas Holiday Advisor (Former Employee)

I worked at TUI Travel as a contractor for less than a year

ProsGetting to see a new part of the world, and experiencing things you otherwise would never get to.

ConsWaking up at 7am, and getting to bed again at 1am the following morning. Employees are often too tired to function properly! No assistance at all given with team problems raised during the season. Liquidation process is draining and pointless. Pay is awful.

Advice to Senior ManagementRealise that you can't pay your employees 400 a month and expect them to work every hour God sends!
