    I worked at USG

    Pros

    Great work-life balance.
    Very friendly and accommodating staff.
Good place for career growth and transformation.
Good location, and good US presence.

    Cons

The work can get boring at times. It is difficult to be very excited about manufacturing building products. Nonetheless the ability to move around within the company generally counters this.

I worked at USG as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

HQ is an incredibly nice facility.
    Great, kind people
The perks and pay (even as an intern!) were great

    Cons

My particular manager rarely checked in with me and did not contribute positively to my experience, but that cannot be said about the company as a whole

I worked at USG as a contractor

    Pros

Nice office, good location, good views, free coffee, nice cafeteria

    Cons

IT Management really doesn't seem to want to progress based on suggestions by contractors. They are more worried about your core hours than the work one can produce. Sad, really.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the contractors you hire. You hired them for their expertise and skills. They have been around the block and know a thing or two.

I worked at USG as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

You're given lots of responsibilities and projects which are actually implemented and used. You get to work on projects that may take millions of dollars and you get to work with a great team of engineers. As an intern we qualified for overtime over 40 hours even though we were paid as salary. This was a very safety conscious company that was great to work for.

    Cons

If you work here full time it's a small town and a small office. You'll have to move across the country a few times to move up in the engineering ranks.

    Pros

Office culture isn't too rough depending on your department. Finance team is very experienced. Office is in a good location. Good benefits

    Cons

Some departments are exposed to more of the business than others. Overall, the majority of the finance team is exposed to good work.

I have been working at USG full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Excellent technical and leadership training for project engineers! Management is very approachable and works with you to resolve issues. Promotions are beginning to take-off and many more are expected due to senior personnel retiring. Excellent benefits, company perks, and work/life balance!

    Cons

The company seems to only care about the wallboard side of business-- good luck seeing change if you're not at a wallboard plant. Pay is not competitive. I personally feel that the company's shared services could be structured better.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't forget about the non-wallboard plants!
