I have been working at Ulta Beauty part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The insurance is great. Coworkers are awesome. They keep you sane at work. Discount is great as well.

    Cons

In order to level jump you have to meet certain goals which can be impossible if you only work at most 24 hours a week. Poor management it's been proven they pick management on favoritism and not ability. The company as a whole really doesn't care about their employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Not all management is bad. I happen to like the store management team way better than the salon's so I guess I would say be more like the store.

I have been working at Ulta Beauty full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

You get to meet very interesting people, help people discover new products and increase self-esteem. Discount on products and services are great as are the free items given by vendors.

    Cons

Management in stores is overworked and underpaid. You are constantly told that you are non-compliant and never given any positive feedback. Payroll hours are not enough to run most stores and are constantly being cut. Districts are very clique-y with some GMs having more leeway and handholding if they are a District Manager's favorite, while other GMs are thrown to the wolves. There is no training program for new support managers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be realistic in task times. Remember that not all stores are the same. Treat the employees with some appreciation (cutting the discount for employee appreciation day was not good). Do not decide to install new POS systems during the holiday season. The reason for high turnover within management is burnout.

I have been working at Ulta Beauty

    Pros

I guess getting to play with makeup is fun. Getting to see what products are out there. That's about it.

    Cons

We were always understaffed. Two people on the floor, manager in the back. One employee stocking shelves, and the other employee covering both the cash registers and the prestige section. Crappy minimum wage, never gave me any hours.

Industry, work life balance really nice place to work at if you like hair and makeup and want to be in that industry

I worked at Ulta Beauty part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Management was really great to work with, so helpful and made work all around fun. If you did something exceptional you would get pick something from the gratis box (filled with makeup, bath, and skincare goodies) so that was good incentive to work hard!

    Cons

Varied schedules, early mornings (shipment) and late nights (holiday hours), sometimes it would be so busy you wouldn't be able to take any breaks.
