    Pros

Good work culture, Employee Engagement , Less hike

    Cons

Not too good in technology advancement , need to explore things and be a self learner .

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hike and Promotions for relevant candidates should be taken care of , promotion should not be just time/experience bound but overall contribution should be given preference and transparency should be their on hike and promotion criteria.
Variable % & Notice period should be decreased.

I worked at UnitedHealth Group full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    Work Life balance
But it is bad also. There is just too much of work life balance i.e. At max 40% meaningful engagement at any point of time. Work life balance is towards unhealthy side.
Lip work as appreciation for technical good work.

    Cons

Having worked with some Captive organizations now, i feel UHG india is the worst by significant margin being run by some really clueless senior middle management.
In my tenure i have seen someone getting promoted in a year time for completely mis managing a big team and dwindling it down to 30% of its initial capacity. Later on the same leader trying to add employees without any projects in pipeline. I feel for those new employees where they are getting into the mess.

You can not ( i mean can not ) take what they say about the work in interviews on face value. In some cases the work itself is not there. They are just trying to fill empty position ID's created by employee resignations. There will be months without any work. A well reasoned self respecting IT guy will go mad without work here.
I have seen people coming to office just to Turn on the Computer ( Some level 27 guys as well ) or running their own business using UHG as a side income. Politics is just a class above anywhere else and is at a very unhealthy level.

Too much party without any real success to spice up the "no work" boring life. Come on - every dollar UHG saves is a dollar for a patient care. They do not value what they say.

No Technology thought leadership. When whole world is becoming engineering heavy - This organization is becoming more managerial heavy. Its well known that Captive organizations offer less head room for promotion where as you get to own the work you do. The pride of doing something technically good for your organization should be there. Here its futile to even try to start anything. You will be shot down by over conservative less techie management. Or they will provide lip service to create it as if they are providing lollipop to a crying baby.

There are some good people also and good work happening in pockets But they are few in number and rapidly depleting. The soul of the organization is lost in India. The way it was created by Mr Mishra is no longer now present. Its running for the sake of running. If i were in UHG IT management in MPLS, i would give a critical look at the india leadership in IT. UHG india is a money sink created and it will continue to bleed sick patient insurance dollars without any bang for its true worth.

The sad part is there are too many managers playing the system. You will be forced to join this ghetto and take wrong advantage of the system or you will be sidelined/ ignored from a broad sector of management. You will be talked about in parties as a non compliant member.

Management communicates with well articulated english statements. You won't find any value or meaning from what they say. The sentences are well formulated at an abstraction level where you can relate it to World peace forum talks.

BTW i still think business process outsourcing running out of india is a value add to UHG and its doing good. on a conservative scale even If 60% IT from india is abolished UHG will not be impacted.

I so regret getting into this company and wasting my productive IT career while i was there. I was not a low end performer as some would think from this review. In all organizations i have worked i have got awards from near CIO level for my hands on technical work and in UHG also i have been rewarded from same level. However I sincerely feel its not an engineering / IT organization. If you are a IT professional and value your IT career do not join this company. If you want to take a break from IT, It can be a good max 1 year parking space.

    Pros

Pros were applicable only before 2009 . Now not a single word for pros ...

    Cons

New Company policies have no foresight (Because leaders does not have) . The problem is every leader wants to grow the size of their team and have no capabilities to handle that . Some newly joined VPs are remarkably idiots

By Name it is "OPTUM" but don't be optimistic if you are a hard core developer and not very good with buttering your mgr

I have been working at UnitedHealth Group full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Work/Life balance
    Cool Life
Good allowances for those who are in support :P
Cab Facility is the one best(only) facility.
    outings and activities.
Very few efficient managers (should be lucky enough to work with them).

    Cons

first and foremost, Variable amount in the package(whenever you get the offer letter from UHG don't go with the CTC but check take home on monthly basis(Sure you will be shocked ) variable amount is paid on yearly basis.

Very Bad infrastructure(no Parking facility, no proper sitting facility), Quite common to see ppl running in search of cubicles.

They spend some lakhs of amount for converting a tester to a developer by providing external training, Many even don't understand Why

(if someone can really good at buttering the Manager then this is the best company to reach heights in your career)

I felt strongly myself "This company is not for me or for those who completes the work and leave but it is for those ppl who wants to lead a cool life without much work", There might not be much growth professionally, This is not only my personal experience but also I have seen many of my seniors.

Finally, NOTICE PERIOD of 3 MONTHS and no buy out option(you will have this option in the documents, But will never work in real life), However when they are recruiting a new employee they will buyout his notice period. VERY FUNNY :)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Nothing from my side, If they go through the review comments from its employees that should be more than enough.

Great company for developers & Tester. Good work life balance.

    Cons

Not a good company for middle management. Responsibilities are not mathcing with role. Most of the decesions are taken at onshore, leads & manager just need to do resource management

    Pros

Compensation is ok, WFH option is available but restricted to manager's will! Nothing else!!

    Cons

The employees are treated like slaves to their immediate boss and the offshore management will blindly follow onshore orders them. Still they force employees to do useless work as new approach without detailing it to onshore. The management will come with organizational and process changes frequently regardless its useful or not .Hell lot of politics and you will get sick of that.
The compensation to the lower level employees are very very less. You don't even know how your performance is measured. No transparency on anything.
The HR people don't know anything other than recruitment and once you are in they don't even know that you exist.
No job security. I have seen people disappearing from the office suddenly. If the senior management don't like you , then you are screwed. !!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please don't exist in the name of UHG when you are not aware of it as UHG or Optum or OGS or GSD!! Treat employees as stakeholders not slaves!! Get some talented top management who could atleast listen and understand process and product! Please mature as level 5 CMMi company

    Pros

    Work life balance.
    Flexibility
    Good work culture.
One of the Healthcare biggies. Good for people who wants to grow on the functional side.

    Cons

Parking. Believe me, so many people left because parking was not provided.
Variable Pay - Atleast 15% of the CTC will be variable and will be paid yearly. If you resign in the 10 month, then also you wont be getting the variable.
    No onsites for Development projects.
Dont expect much work. If you really want to grow technically, this is not at all the correct place
