I have been working at University of Waterloo full-time for more than a year

    Pros

You have some freedom in performing your research
You will have very good chance to collaborate with your group mates to produce some good publications

    Cons

It really and mailnly depends on your supervisor....Some supervisor might force you to stick with his research plan...others might give you some freedom in choosing your research topics....At the end of the day....you will need to produce some good publications

I worked at University of Waterloo as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Lots of good interaction with professors and students.
A large community in which an intern can explore the field they think they are interested in with minimal risk.

    Cons

A bit of a stagnant atmosphere. The university is stuck using very old software solutions that seem to be coded by previous interns. A lot of functionality is unknown to current management, because the people who made the code have left without leaving documentation.
