I worked at VMware as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

The work culture is amazing. Some of the best in the industry. They are always ready to help you learn. Colleagues were very encouraging and friendly, no ego issues. Very good work-life balance. Flexible work hours
The pantry is always open, so you can grab a bite whenever you are hungry. The Foosball and TT tables help bust stress. Gym is always open for fitness enthusiasts. Overall, I felt they took care of me very well.

    Cons

    None I can think of

I have been working at VMware full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

You get exposed to latest technologies.
Good open culture. Work is priority not other aspects like how much time you are spending from where. You don't have to spend 9 hours in office to prove your capabilities.
Market leader in Virtualization and a Growing company.

    Cons

Internal Processes needs to be improved on various software development activities.
Company can spend more money on overall facilities and infrastructure.

I worked at VMware as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

You get to work on latest technology and platform
Salary is of industry standard and better

    Cons

There is no Job guarantee, you might loose job any day not matter you are full time employee or contract
Contract duration is not mentioned clearly
If company feels that a product/business is obsolete it will not only decommission the product it will also retrench people working for the product (eg.900 employee all FTE's supporting a product were removed in a single day in early 2013 without making any efforts to move them to different business & CEO was a part of this decision)
Work here only if they are hiring you for a duration which you require and technology on which you want to gain instant experience

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lets not bother advising, Vmware works that way they hire for something once they decide it is not working they fire them. This is vmware policy they call it business outlook

    * you will be hired for Core development but endup taking customer calls
    * not a place for Talented developers or project managers

I worked at VMware full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

leaders in virtualization platform, changed the dynamics of the industry. compensation is purely based on how u negotiate. offer stock options in which one can make money

    Cons

job is highly number driven. 2 bad quatrter in sales and u can be in firing line. also the leadership is not inspiring. the leader choose to bring in new fellows who are close to him on his previous company. if the manager does not like you , he will throw you out. HR does not do anything.

I have been working at VMware full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Vmware being quite a new company is competing against some of the IT giants in the world like Microsoft, Citrix, AT&T when it comes to Software Virtualization and Cloud services. Its gives you the best remuneration possible along with other company benefits. An employee is given a Career path of his/her choice based on Goals. Overall its a very flexible and management communicates clearly.

    Cons

This is purely based on the job profile one is into. The profile which I am into is 6 years old and considering it a bit new, I face challenges of process inefficiency, Cultural differences etc but there is always improvisation to every aspect. But as it is a fast growing company one is given an opportunity to grow based on performance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Maybe a little more interaction with employees on a regular basis to have a clear career path at Vmware.
