I have been working at VMware full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Some great co-workers to work with, if you are in the "right" team.
Good benefits in terms of Salary & other perks (subjective to if you got the right manager).

    Cons

Too many intermediate managers and seems like a power struggle initiated by some. So if you are in the team of such manager, you can benefit but if you are not, then get ready for a hard time in getting any work (forget "good" work), needless to say very minimal chances of your career growth.
Higher management doesn't seem to care much as for them, work is getting done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to listen to the engineers who are the ones who get the job done and not just blindly follow the sugar coated talk of managers.
Sad to see a great place to work for, getting ruined by a few.

    Cons

Leadership in my team is terrible with no sense of understanding potential.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should look out for those who have the zeal & potential to work & should not indulge in unnecessary politics with employees.

I worked at VMware as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

The work culture is amazing. Some of the best in the industry. They are always ready to help you learn. Colleagues were very encouraging and friendly, no ego issues. Very good work-life balance. Flexible work hours
The pantry is always open, so you can grab a bite whenever you are hungry. The Foosball and TT tables help bust stress. Gym is always open for fitness enthusiasts. Overall, I felt they took care of me very well.

    Cons

    None I can think of

I have been working at VMware full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

You get exposed to latest technologies.
Good open culture. Work is priority not other aspects like how much time you are spending from where. You don't have to spend 9 hours in office to prove your capabilities.
Market leader in Virtualization and a Growing company.

    Cons

Internal Processes needs to be improved on various software development activities.
Company can spend more money on overall facilities and infrastructure.

I worked at VMware as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

You get to work on latest technology and platform
Salary is of industry standard and better

    Cons

There is no Job guarantee, you might loose job any day not matter you are full time employee or contract
Contract duration is not mentioned clearly
If company feels that a product/business is obsolete it will not only decommission the product it will also retrench people working for the product (eg.900 employee all FTE's supporting a product were removed in a single day in early 2013 without making any efforts to move them to different business & CEO was a part of this decision)
Work here only if they are hiring you for a duration which you require and technology on which you want to gain instant experience

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lets not bother advising, Vmware works that way they hire for something once they decide it is not working they fire them. This is vmware policy they call it business outlook

    Positive Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO
