    Pros

Interesting products, smart people and projects that don't stop.

Company grew tremendously in the period I was there and management didn't adjust accordingly.

I have been working at VMware full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Industry leading technology makes technical work here enjoyable. Time-off policies are quite standard.. Trainings could be handled better. Technology is the only pro here IMO.

    Cons

Lacks a good leadership team. Managers don't work with trust and commitment, and have no managerial capabilities whatsoever. Managers are fostering an example of furthering their own vested interests rather than company's values and vision. Frequent changes (sometimes reverse) in the organization structure causes a lot disturbance and insecurity. Even the facilities department (outsourced) are indifferent to the employee concerns; and less said about management, the better.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start considering the impact on the engineers while taking lofty and ambitious decisions. as they are the ones who got the product where it is today, not the managers.

I have been working at VMware

    Pros

Great Technology, Enterprise support and top 500 companies in the world are clients, good pay, top class work locations...lots of opportunity to learn. Metrics are centralized..

    Cons

Management stop treating Support Engineer's as call center agents, VMware is a Enterprise class product companies. Afraid that its going to loose the charm if the trend continues....

High iteration rate, Management doesn't care about experienced employees..
People also don't care because they get better opportunities ahead..
but that doesn't mean that one should not value Employee...

Peers in other centers are treated well...

Manager's control most part of the operations and knowledge management. A lot of favoritism is noticed in term of training, promotions and compensations to individual Engineers.. High Politics within the management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management stop treating Support Engineer's as call center agents, VMware is a Enterprise class product companies. Afraid that its going to loose the charm if the trend continues....
Stop making the Center a typical call center. Value your Employees before its too late....

We are so proud when a friend talks about VMware and appreciates us working in VMware, but the way Management treats makes us feel very bad...

Former Contractor - Technical Support Engineer in Bangalore

I worked at VMware as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

    - Shift Allowance and the facilities

    Cons

    - When a director signs a contract where employees can be under surveillance at all times, and vents it out in front of employees then clearly something has gone terribly wrong.
    - Directors who are proud of being cynical but somehow are also behavioral psychologists.
    - Some Managers who like to force respect for hierarchy since they are just too incompetent as Managers, the ideal profession for these kind of guys is a feudal lord and not a Manager in a Corporation.
    - The so called open culture is very political/regional in nature.

To sum up the company values:
    E - Excruciating
    P - Political
    I - Ignorant
    C - Cult Mentality

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employees are not toys you can play with.
