Retail store manager Farmington, nm

General Manager Retail (Former Employee)
Farmington, NM (US)

I worked at Western Refining full-time for more than 3 years

ProsGreat chances for advancement if your willing to work hard. DMs and OMs expect a lot but 100% customer satisfaction isn't easy yet they manage to do it. Follow the rules and complete your duties, you will be noticed. Great employees and great benefits.

ConsNot really a CON but this is a corp. with many stores, they know what works and what doesn't. Change doesn't come easy, and may never come but they welcome your input.

Advice to Senior ManagementThanks for all you've taught me, for the challanges and for allowing me to grow. Keep finding good people and making them great.

District Manager (Current Employee)

I have been working at Western Refining full-time for more than 3 years

ProsWork with great people and in a great environment. Job can be demanding at times but it feels like everyone is working towards the same goal of strengthening the company and making it better. Still has somewhat of a small company feel to it.

ConsA little behind the industry in some areas.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep the progress and the culture moving in the same direction.

your experience depends entirely on the next level manager

Store Manager (Current Employee)
Phoenix, AZ (US)

I have been working at Western Refining

Prosvery autonomous, expect little to no supervision or contact with your management unless something goes wrong. This is good because you can run your store as you see fit, within corporate guidelines of course.

Consno feedback, poor compensation, no communication, lack of work/life balance. Because of the lack of communication and supervision, you don't really get noticed if you are doing a good job and have little growth opportunities.

Advice to Senior ManagementLevels of management are too far apart, store managers rarely have contact with district managers, and next to never with operations managers. Upper management does not have a realistic view of operations on a day to day basis.

Western has lost touch with reality

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Yorktown, VA (US)

I have been working at Western Refining

ProsWestern is only a good place to work if you have no other options and need to have an income to pay the bills

ConsManagement has no respect for the people actually working and running the refinery. Yorktown was a great place to work, but Western has destroyed it.

Advice to Senior ManagementRealize that the employees are your greatest asset and treat them as so.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
