    Family oriented company but lacks opportunities for women and minorities

    ProsCareer opportunities are abundant up to the manager level. Many lateral opportunities. Ethical company that is family oriented. Good employee discounts and developmental opportunities. Excellent bonus system.

    ConsWomen and minorities are under-represented at the Director and above levels of the organization and we don't see intentional actions by the company to address this. We target women as our primary customer - why wouldn't we have more women running the company? Performance reviews are a game - balance out the ratings for the distribution curve and hope you are not one of the bottom rankings this time.

    Advice to Senior ManagementYou want to be seen as progressive you have to look, act, sound, and feel like you and thus the company are progressive. Wishing one thing and acting another will not get you seen as contemporary as your competitors.

    Disappointing lack of leadership, except in cronyism

    ProsIf you're a new graduate (especially from Purdue), and this is your first job, you'll do great, probably enjoy the company, and have plenty of opportunity.

    ConsIf you're coming to the company with experience, you're going to be disappointed. You'll be expected to know the Whirlpool processes without training, and denigrated when you don't pick them up through osmosis.

    If you like a company where your performance is judged not just by how you perform vs your goals, but how you are compared to your peers, you'll love Whirlpool. In order for your performance to be "above average", your co-workers performance must be "below average". This doesn't exactly contribute to an environment of teamwork.

    The quality of the company's products is so poor, that's it's an ongoing internal joke that employees can't even recommend their products.

    Advice to Senior ManagementStop trying to manage by slogan. Try providing subordinates with what they need to do their jobs and make the company successful, instead of just expecting them to perform.

    Prosit's a paycheck, good money. Thats all i can say about that.

    Consincompetent management. how they treat their employees. Forced overtime all the time, They don't care if their employees get hurt. Work them like dogs so they can get rich. They allow bulling to go on even if it means the health of others.

    Great People, terrible leadership, product quality not great.

    ProsWork environment is very good in general, people and coworkers are kind and cooperative. There's a lot of technical training available for employees. Relative good life/work balance but depending on position. Great for people starting their careers.

    ConsFor a global company whirlpool has limited resources in what counts, starting with labs and simulation resources all the way up to poor computers and available tools. In general leadership is terrible, there are some good leaders but there are people occupying high responsibility positions that lack technical people skills and don't set fair goals. Some of the good leaders are going away to work somewhere else. Employee 1 to 5 rating system is outdated, its perception-based to a great extend and labels people with mediocre 3's or bad boy 4's, even the 1's don't get much benefit anyway so it does not make a big difference... in the rating meetings people you don't worth with have a say according to what the perceive of you on your rating, this impacts bonuses and morale, etc . . . Staying after hours and excessive load burden upon employees in north america and mexico is not uncommon. What was once a great american company is now disappointing.

    Advice to Senior ManagementA complete turn around to your outdated 1 to 5, perception based rating system and goal settings for yours employee is needed if you want to retain talent. Make sure you focus on improving leadership -especially in Mexico- with specific goals, and renew when necessary , bad leaders create a big impact in peoples performance. Separate plant operations support from product development for an efficient work environment. Provide employees with GREAT computers and laptops in Mexico and NAR, lenovo laptops are a shame, I never saw a global company with so poor working resources.

    Competitive, back stabbing, typical corporate environment

    ProsNice buildings. That is about it. A pretty view doesn't mean it's a nice place to work.

    ConsJust because someone says they want to be a manager does not mean they will make a good manager. Need to implement management training before they hand out the badge. Horrible low level management.

    Advice to Senior ManagementPoor leadership and "relationships" . It is all about who you know. If your manager does not like the way your nose sits on your face you will not further your career at this company. Benton Harbor MI is a horrible place to put an $85 million dollar corporate campus. Some people will do okay in this work environment but if your not comfortable throwing your co workers under a bus, this company is not for you.

    Advice to Senior ManagementOver the past years the upper management at WHR has moved to intimidation to get their way. The result is a bunch of yes men in various positions. Start encouraging and rewarding those who contribute honestly and professionally.
