What does a Director of Apparel Sourcing do?

Sourcers hire candidates in highly technical and specialized positions. They are members of the human resources team who create candidate funnels for positions that prove challenging to fill. Sourcers interact with potential candidates and develop talent pipelines. They conduct initial candidate screenings and are responsible for setting up interviews. Sourcers manage a candidate database, record hiring conversion rates, and coordinate with hiring managers to determine a position’s requirements. They compose and send recruitment correspondence including emails and interact with potential candidates on professional networks and social media.

Sourcers also contact industry partners for candidate referrals, and they organize and conduct interviews. They create talent pipelines for current and future hiring prospects and manage the company's candidate database. They are responsible for scheduling candidate interviews with hiring managers and the measurement and recording of conversion rates. Sourcers need a minimum bachelor's degree in human resources management or related fields.

What responsibilities are common for Director of Apparel Sourcing jobs?
  • Manage selected internal and external relationships with suppliers, cross-functional and/or multi-functional teams.
  • Identify and execute the implementation of cost reduction projects, supplier exits, and tool transitions.
  • Create collaborative business plans with strategic suppliers, develop negotiation strategies, and Direct the execution of strategic programs.
  • Ensure vendor performance support design requirements and production goals.
  • Establish contractual commitments to ensure longer-term cost savings to meet departmental goals.
  • Ensure all goods and services meet established standards and legal requirements.
  • Support project and program teams as key sourcing and supply chain resource.
  • Assure the appropriate use of capital and financial resources.
  • Manage and partner with supply base to achieve target costs and margins, production lead-times and product execution.
  • Build and maintain a network of engaged talent across functions.
  • Proactively build and maintain a large talent database, collecting information from a variety of sources including web search, professional associations, diversity organizations, phone research and networking, which will include not only lead generation, but initial contact of prospects to gain their interest career opportunities.
  • Apply appropriate business analytics to review proposals and provide accurate financial comparisons of business proposals.
  • Deliver sourcing projects from commencement through to contract execution
  • Develop strong relationships with vendors to ensure quality and delivery at best-in-class costs.
  • Participate in the development of policies and procedures to achieve specific goals.
  • Build talent pipelines to fill current and future roles through leveraging user groups, blogs and networking events.
  • Coordinate costing of customer specific non-standard cost and cycles for sourced equipment.
  • Collect and analyze data and metrics to summarize sourcing opportunities, results and accomplishments for continuous improvement
  • Partner with recruiter team members, internal hiring managers and HR to understand the role requirements and candidate profile for key positions.
  • Identify future talent needs and proactively develop talent pool.
