Models pose for artists, photographers, or customers to advertise products including clothing, cosmetics, food, or cars. They are hired to advertise their goods through magazines, billboards, catalogs, and television. Some models participate in photo shoots and pose for photographers. During photo shoots, they change their posture and facial expressions to capture the client’s desired look. They also pose live on locations including fashion shows.
Models sometimes work in retail establishments including department stores where they display clothing directly for onlookers or shoppers and describe the clothing’s features and prices. They also pose for sketch artists, painters, and sculptors. They work closely with photographers, hair and clothing stylists, makeup artists, and clients to produce the desired look. They create and maintain a portfolio of their best and latest work and travel to meet and interview potential clients and conduct research on promoted products. There is no education requirement to be a model, but some need a degree in a fine arts field.
