What does a Process Technician do?

Process technicians monitor and improve the manufacturing process for various sectors and industries and are responsible for monitoring and adjusting machine parameters, to report equipment malfunctions, and to observe and test batch quality.

Process technicians identify machine faults and production rate errors and maintain the production logbooks. They report faults and breakdowns to supervisors and production engineers and are responsible for maintaining a clean and safe production area. They look for areas of production that could be improved or increased, and they ensure team members will adhere to safety measures and protocols. Process technicians need a minimum high school diploma or equivalent and a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering as well as three years of experience as a proxy technician.

What responsibilities are common for Process Technician jobs?
  • Oversee inventory and distribution of equipment and supplies.
  • Responsible for controlling the inventory, reordering supplies, and checking expiration dates.
  • Inspect, disassemble, sort, clean, and process reusable instrumentation and equipment.
  • Diagnose problems, replaces or repairs parts, make process adjustments.
  • Maintain current training status on all applicable standard operating procedures.
  • Create processes and tools for mobile use of GIS for data collection and consumption.
  • Responsible for cleanliness of department and all processing equipment.
  • Unload supplies, ensuring items are not compromised and stored in correct location according to tracking system storage locations.
  • Support implementation of new technology for process execution and/or analysis.
