What does a Research Technologist do?
Research technologists use specialized expertise to perform research that is often highly technical or scientific in nature. They may be employed in a variety of fields, but commonly work in an academic or laboratory setting. They plan, organize, and execute research projects, conducting this research using a range of investigative techniques. This research may involve the use of laboratory equipment or sophisticated technological tools. They may also serve as a subject matter expert for technical material on this topic within the organization.
Research technologists typically have at least a bachelor’s degree in a scientific or technical field, although an advanced degree is often preferred. They must have excellent research skills and strong project management capabilities. Hands-on experience using a range of research tools and equipment is helpful.
- Assist staff investigator with experimental design and planning/developing technical aspects of research projects.
- Collect, prepare and maintain required research documentation, including informed consent records, case records, clinical notes and medical reports.
- Report and assist with the management of protocol deviations, adverse events and other project-related issues.
- Assist with the preparation and delivery of internal/external presentations, conference reports/lectures, and publishing submissions.
- Bachelor's Degree in electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, computer science, exercise science, mechanical engineering or optical engineering.
- Sound attention to detail and collaboration skills.
- Fluency in spreadsheets, writing protocols, and statistics.
