What does a Robotics Engineer do?

Robotics engineers create and maintain machines that perform functions in place of humans. They may work in the agriculture, military, manufacturing, or medical industries and conceive of new and innovative uses for robots. They design and improve robots for existing systems and repair and maintain industrial robots. Robotics engineers are highly creative and self-motivated with advanced mathematics, applied physical science, and computer science skills.

Robotics engineers read, write, analyze, and interpret technical procedures and schematics; they define problems and collect data, facts, and conclusions from their research. They write software and build electronics and design mechanisms. They are responsible for the research, development, and maintenance of robotics systems and components, and they evaluate and calibrate systems to ensure maximum efficiency. They troubleshoot robotic systems and their applications and maintain accurate documentation and records for them as well. A robotics engineer needs a bachelor's degree in automation, mechanics, robotics, or electrical engineering with a minimum of two years of industry experience. They need proficiency in drafting programs including AutoCAD and strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills.

What responsibilities are common for Robotics Engineer jobs?
  • Install, repair, adjust, and test equipment and components to ensure that systems function properly.
  • Perform scheduled, predictive, and preventive maintenance to detect and prevent problems.
  • Incorporate relevant technical literature into the understanding of system operation and coordinate efforts with other technicians involved in installing or maintain, equipment or components.
  • Identify new data sources and develop data usage strategy for AI solutions.
  • Build constructive working relationships characterized by a high level of inclusion, cooperation and mutual respect.
  • Use a deep understanding of software solutions being implemented coupled with an understanding of customer needs to ensure solutions meet those needs.
  • Observe and incorporate safety standards and regulations required for safe operation of the system.
  • Evaluate current end to end processes and to reimage and redesign those processes to enable conversational artificial intelligence in servicing processes.
  • Develop and deploy Artificial Intelligence governance structure to manage the ongoing implementation of the Artificial Intelligence strategy.
What are the typical qualifications for Robotics Engineer jobs?
  • Bachelor's or Graduate's Degree in computer engineering, engineering, computer science or electrical engineering, or equivalent experience.alent degree.
  • Fluent in a variety of programming languages, software, and systems.
  • Skilled in algorithm design, frameworks, crimping and debugging.
  • Will strive for continuous improvement.
  • A natural problem solver.

Robotics Engineer Interviews

Frequently asked questions about the role and responsibilities of robotics engineers

Robotics engineers spend their workday constructing, configuring, testing, and debugging robots created to perform functions in place of humans. They work in different industries ranging from agriculture, military, manufacturing, and medical to designing plans and developing new uses for robots.

Becoming a robotics engineer can be the start of a rewarding career for individuals who are both creative and analytical. Robotics engineers work a typical 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. schedule, but can sometimes work longer to complete a project on time. The work environment can vary depending on the industry, but many robotics engineers work in an office or lab environment where their tools are easily accessible.

Successful robotics engineers get paid well. The average base pay for a robotics engineer in the United States is ₹4,90,743 per year. This can vary based on years of experience, level of education, demand for work, and additional certifications held.

Working as a robotics engineer can be demanding at times, as creating prototypes and identifying problems is challenging. Operating as part of a team is sometimes required, so robotics engineers must have strong communication and interpersonal skills to relate effectively and clearly to coworkers.
