What does a Technical Manager do?

Technical managers provide companies a competitive edge by aligning computer information systems with their business operations. They oversee all computer technical matters and manage information technology support teams; they may also be called upon to implement computer network security protocols. Technical managers collaborate with a technology development team and users to enhance the system’s performance and complete jobs on time. They perform analyses on CIS efficiency and integration and report to management on CIS development, implementation, and its progress

Technical managers collaborate with development teams and departments and incorporate user feedback into the systems and ensure CIS innovation and implementation occur at a timely and efficient speed. They manage support teams, evaluate performance metrics, and oversee CIS user testing and adjustments. They hire and train new IT department staff and maintain computer network infrastructure while ensuring networks remain secure. Technical managers need a minimum bachelor's degree in computer information systems, management information systems, or related fields.

  • Maintain and review QC data for laboratory testing.
  • Make recommendations for hiring, firing and promoting of employees.
  • Develop and lead product and process improvement trials and studies.
  • Lead the team to begin to leverage process automation and robotics.
  • Available to provide the inputs to any action items, deliverables, etc.
  • Set and maintain product(s) technical vision and technical roadmap.
  • Efficiently use industry specific software to resolve customer inquiries, price checks, inventory queries and price.
  • Define, manage and evaluate team members on goals and performance metrics.
  • Ensure compliance with established sales and security policies and procedures.
  • Participate in teams working on opportunities to promote manufacturing excellence.
  • Collaborate with product stakeholders to translate business problem statements into technical solutions.
What are the typical qualifications for Technical Manager jobs?
  • Bachelor's or Graduate's Degree in business, engineering, computer science or mathematics, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with Oracle Analytics, R Language, Big Data, C, C#, SQL, JAVA, and ReACT software and systems.
  • Experience working with cloud software and systems, statistics, and big data.
  • Can participate in Agile ceremonies including daily scrums.
  • Prior experience in team management and a natural leader. Six Sigma Training encouraged.
  • Strive for continuous improvement and collaborate with all team members to problem solve.
  • Can utilize humor when necessary.
  • Is a critical thinker and problem solver.
  • Demonstrated experience with computing, writing protocols, and business process analysis.
