Do other Big 4 actually give negative performance reviews? Or is it all sugar coated like EY
Has anyone gotten their CPE audited by the state their CPA license is in before?
Just got laid off as part of RIF 10 mins ago from one of the MM public accounting firm under tax line of service Feeling horrible, but need to start recruiting again.
A friend who wants to enter accounting was going to get a master's. I think they just need an associate or accounting hours to supplement bachelor's degree. Thoughts?
Do you consider a 7% raise good in today’s market?
None of these people in private equity have their CPAs yet they are now controlling/owning CPA firms. Does anyone see a problem here?
EY CANDID!!
Understandable. From my experience I’ve always received critical feedback informally and then only positive feedback formally
Critical feedback should always be discussed informally first and if the issue continues then feedback is left.
I got a negative review at EY formally. Informally everything is great. I’m pissed
"Yeah everything's cool, but we needed to tell HR you're crap just to justify zero pay rise"
I wouldn’t say negative review, but I do point out areas of improvement. Like “you have clear strength in X, Y, and Z. For areas of improvement, I think if you were to do A, B, and C it would help you become more well-rounded and set you up for progression etc etc” If the person had clear performance issues, there should’ve been multiple communications with the individual (live feedback) and if there was no improvement after that, the ‘negative review’ shouldn’t be a surprise to the individual - but I’ve never encountered this. Ppl usually improve
Generally if negative feedback is coming it’s discussed first so they have a chance to correct. If the issue persists, then negative feedback is left.
Yeap, it happens, and without any prior communication
Depends on the manager. Unfortunately I have an SM who gives extremely negative reviews and nitpicks to justify it
Same here. It really killed my self esteem 😔 good news though, I switched firms and my new managers tell me that I’m killing it, so it was clearly just my old manager. However, the repeated negative reviews gave me lots of anxiety and imposter syndrome, which I’m still trying to shake.
I gave a bad one to an associate last year. He’s no longer at the firm (PwC)
