Current Employee - Project Engineer

I have been working at Binghamton University part-time for more than a year

Pros

Culturally dynamic best public university

Cons

Relatively low industry surrounded around Binghamton, NY compared with other SUNYs

Current Employee - Adjunct Professor

I have been working at Broome Community College part-time for more than 5 years

Pros

Excellent work/life balance, and because of that good pay for what you do. Your work as an instructor here is dependent on your department, and so is your enjoyment.

Cons

Toxic work environments abound on this campus; certain bad actors are grandfathered in and must be avoided or tolerated. People tend to be melodramatic, and have a hard time getting along, which... leaves it up to others to negotiate a ceasefire among them. For example, in the LAD (Learning Assistance Center), the co-Chairs often have to get the secretaries to stop creating things to fight each other and others over.

Advice to Management

Talk to the crazies.
